Ivy Hall Families,

Please remember that you can check out a lot of great content by following the twitter hashtag #inspire96. You can find your student's teachers there, as many of them tweet to that hashtag.

Our school theme for the year is “There is Only One You” from the popular children’s book of the same title. For the month of September, students will be learning about friendship. Our staff will work to naturally embed district SEL targets and the school-wide theme into the curriculum to further support the whole-child.

KCSD96 Text Message Opt-In Process (New)

District 96 uses the SchoolMessenger system to communicate with our parent community by email and–in some instances–also by text message and/or phone call.

If you would like to receive text messages from School District 96 when the subject and nature of the communication warrant our sending them (to advise you of a late-returning bus, for example), it’s necessary for you first to have sent a text message of Y or YES to this District 96 short code number: 67587. Or, if you prefer, use your mobile phone to scan the QR code in this School Messenger FLYER(English & Spanish) and send your Y or YES reply.

To opt out of our text messages, simply reply STOP to any text message District 96 sends you.

Please be advised that standard message and data rates for text messaging may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

After School Opportunity for Readers (New)

Calling all 3rd-5th Graders!

Come to explore your love for reading with our Reader’s Theater Club. Students will have the opportunity to read through and act out Reader’s Theater plays. They will work together with peers to create props, incorporate actions, and explore their love for reading through these mini-plays. There will be different plays and themes we work with throughout the course of our time together. We can’t wait for you to join us! Space is limited, so send in your permission slips to Miss Innocentini or Miss Heineman soon. There will be room for 24 students. Pick up for this class will be outside between the main office and P.E. Gym doors.

**We will be offering two sessions. The first 24 to turn the permission slip in will be in session 1, the rest will be in session 2.

REQUIRED REGISTRATION FORM

After-School Fun (New)

After-school opportunities for Ivy Hall Elementary students are included in our school's VIRTUAL BACKPACK and on our CLUBS/SPORTS webpage. Students currently have an opportunity to learn to speak Spanish through a Fun Fluency Spanish Immersion class. Other after-school club opportunities will be coming soon. Continue to watch my Principal's Message for more after-school opportunities.

The fun run will take place on school grounds. Students will have 25 minutes to run or walk briskly for the entirety of the time.  At the end of 25 minutes, students will meet their teacher back on the blacktop and cool down and receive a bottle of water.

STUDENT PICK UP (Reminder)

Students that are picked up from parent pick up should obtain a sticker by registering for one. Register to receive a sticker HERE. Having stickers on your vehicle helps to aid our students in a more secure pick up. If you do not have a sticker, we may ask additional questions for us to verify your pick up vehicle. This is for the safety of our students.  There will be a table for registration and pick up of stickers during Meet the Teacher. They are free of charge.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES (Reminder)

Students that take the bus will arrive and board the school bus on the east sidewalk. Only cars that are parking and walking students into school will be allowed to enter the east parking lot from 8:10am-8:25am. At the end of the day, only buses will be permitted in the east parking lot between 2:50pm. and 3:10pm.  Cars that are parked in the east parking lot will not be able to leave during dismissal time.

Parents that drop off and/or pick up their children will enter a rolling drop off/pick up on the west blacktop near the playground by driving east on Penny Lane.  Parents will exit the rolling drop/pick up by driving east on Penny Lane.  All students that are being picked up will exit the building via the west doors where they will be met by faculty.  Faculty members will direct cars through the rolling drop off and pick up and assist students (See Map below).

CHANGES TO ASSIGNED TRANSPORTATION (Reminder)

*** If your student has a change in transportation or dismissal plans, simply telling your student is not sufficient. It is district policy to send a written note to school with your student. If you call or email the building with a change we cannot guarantee the change in dismissal for your student. The current policy is as follows:

9.4 Changes to Assigned Transportation

A change in a child's typical bus routine must be communicated through a written parent note (not email) and be given to the child's teacher on the morning the parent will be picking up the child after school (rather than having the child ride the bus). Otherwise, the child will follow his/her typical transportation routine.

Due to capacity restrictions and for the safety of our students, riding an unassigned bus for birthday parties, scouts, carpools/playdates, etc. , is not considered to be an appropriate use of transportation resources. Emergency changes to the typical routine must be communicated by a phone call to the school (no email notification will be accepted). Permission is reserved for emergencies only or at the discretion of the principal. The request will be considered by the building principal (or, at the middle school, by the assistant principal), who will review the request and communicate the decision.

A student attending Willow Grove School is not allowed to ride a bus other than the one to which he/she has been assigned, or to leave the bus at a bus stop other than his/her assigned bus stop under any circumstances. Willow Grove students may access bus service only according to the District-designated plan.: Temporary changes may not be made to access the bus.  Any permanent changes to bus plans require 5 days to process route changes.

At any time, parents may change plans from bus to parent pick-up by notifying the school by written note.

*** Also if your student is absent or late please call the office so we are informed.
