Ivy Hall Community Members,
PTO Cultural Arts Assembly - Wright Brothers (New)
This past Tuesday, March 6, 2018 our students had the opportunity to learn about the application of STEM (Science Technology Engineering & Math) through the lens of the historical flight trials in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville and Wilbur Wright (actors) visited Ivy Hall and performed song and dance while introducing students to the concept of design and iteration. The actors performed for about 40 minutes and during the performance, they constructed a replica of the plane that Orville and Wilbur Wright built and flew. While building the aircraft the actors modeled their thinking and discussed properties of aerodynamics. At the conclusion of the program, students were given an opportunity to ask questions to further their knowledge of flight as well as the trials and tribulations the Wright Brothers endured. It was a great performance. The students were very engaged, had some fun, and hopefully learned some really cool content about the famous 1903 flight.
