Sounds of Brazil Assembly (New)

Dedé Sampaio is a Brazilian percussionist who visited Ivy Hall this week with his outstanding program. Dedé has played/recorded with Miles Davis, Jon Faddis, Toninho Horta, Gary Peacock, Randy Brecker, Dave Kikoski and many others. Ivy Hall students and staff had an absolute blast learning about all the percussion instruments and some Brazilian facts and culture at the same time. A special thanks to Vanessa Kapoor, Tina Piepenbrink, and the PTO for helping bring this awesome experience to Ivy Hall.

Successful Drill This Week (New)

This week, on January 31, 2018 all our students, teachers, and building staff participated in a drill together to help us consider and review best practice options and actions we could take to keep us safe if an intruder were to enter our school.

Like me, our School Resource Officer Cliff Paul was extremely impressed with our students’ responses to the follow-up questions that we and other District staff asked them in each classroom immediately afterward. Our students were calm throughout and their thoughtful conversation together with their teachers reflects their understanding of response options for safety in a variety of scenarios.

Absences From School  (New)

Parents please contact the school office in the morning either by phone or email if your student will not be attending school or late to school by 9:00am. When parents do not notify the office, at any school building in District 96, the staff in the front office will call home to ensure your student safety and record the reason for the absence. We are required to report attendance data to the state of Illinois. If you leave a message in voicemail please spell your last name, it may save you a follow up call.

Band Concert  (New)

Where: Twin Groves Middle School

When: Tuesday, February 13 at 7:00 PM

Who will perform? Prairie and Ivy Hall 5th grade bands ( Cadet Band) and the Twin Groves Concert Band

Student Call time for Cadet Band: 6:15 PM. The 5th grade Cadet band students should be in the Twin Groves band room by 6:15 PM (Signs will be in the hallway directing students to the band room.) The reason for having them warm up in the band room is so the students will get a feel for the Twin Groves band room.

Student Call time for Concert Band: 6:40 PM Concert band members should be in the band room by 6:40 PM ready to play.

What should the students wear? Band shirts, dark pants, and dress shoes.

What should students bring? Students should bring their instrument and Ipad. Please have the Ipad charged. Percussion students do not need to bring their instruments, just their sticks.

How Long will the concert last? Around 30 minutes. However, I believe there will be a pre-concert presented by musicians from Stevenson High School.

After Concert Social: See below.

Join us on February 13th, for an After-Concert Social featuring Culver’s vanilla custard or lemon ice or a decorated cookie from Original Bagel and Bialy.

Please pre-order your sundaes and cookies now so we don’t run out. Prices will be higher at the door and quantities available limited.

To find the order form please sign in to your Band and Orchestra Boosters Membership Toolkit account or click on the link below.  If you have any problems with the form, you can contact Donna Cobb at [email protected].  We are also looking for five volunteers to help with the event.  More information on that is also in the Band and Orchestra Boosters

Membership Toolkit.

Flu Season Send or Keep Home? (Repeat)

Deciding when a child is too sick to go to school can be a difficult decision for parents to make. When deciding, use the guidelines linked below and seek the advice of a healthcare provider.

Valentine’s Day Parties (Repeat)

Please remember that if you are donating snacks and/or drinks for the winter parties on February 14th, these items MUST come from the Approved Snack List. Please also have these items at school by Wednesday, February 14th at 9:00am to be approved by the nurse.

If you have been approved by the head room parent to volunteer at the classroom party and have not yet been raptored at Ivy Hall, please stop in prior to the parties to scan your license in the office with Mrs. Hannon. This will make the check-in process run smoothly on party day. Only those who have been approved by the head room parent can attend.

2nd Grade General Music Concert (Repeat)

Thursday, February 8th from 6:30-7:00 pm in the Ivy Hall big gym our second-grade students and Mrs. Coleman will be performing. Our students have been working very hard and are excited to showcase their vocal talents for friends and family. Please come and enjoy the program. Directly after the event, families are welcome and encouraged to attend Ivy Hall Celebrates Diversity.

Ivy Hall Celebrates Diversity & Learning (Repeat)

Ivy Hall Celebrates Diversity is a school-wide event that will take place on Thursday, February 8th from 7:00 pm-7:45 pm after the second-grade music concert. If you do not have a second-grade student, you can simply arrive at 7:00 pm and head to your student(s) homeroom(s). Each team will showcase something different and unique that speaks to our school diversity. The event will be an open format much like Ivy Hall Celebrates has been in the past, however, this year each team will showcase our theme, diversity, in their own unique way. We chose the open format because many families have more than one classroom they may want to visit due to having multiple students. Please come and celebrate diversity and learning by visiting us on this evening.

*** Students & Families are encouraged to wear appropriate dress that represents their culture

THE REQUIREMENT FOR SOME TO PROVE RESIDENCY AGAIN

Attention: Parents of all current KDG and 5th-Graders

Who must prove residency?

Parents of all current KDG and 5th-Graders.

Yes–even if you proved residency at the start of the current school year–and even if you have other students currently attending KCSD96 schools–it still is necessary to prove residency again for current kindergartners and current 5th-graders. Administrative assistants at Willow Grove and KCSD96 elementary schools will begin accepting proof of residency after school resumes on Jan. 8, following Winter Break.

At what school should you prove residency?

Prove residency at Willow Grove for current kindergartners.

Prove residency at the elementary school your 5th grader currently attends.

How do you prove residency?

At Willow Grove or the elementary school your 5th grader attends now, please visit the building office and present the following to the administrative assistant:

• a current monthly mortgage or lease statement or property tax bill

AND

• a current utility bill

By when must you prove residency?

No later than Fri., Feb. 23. This deadline is important! Your current kindergartner’s or current 5th grader’s online registration form link will not be emailed when 2018–19 registration opens for all returning students districtwide on Mar. 1 and he/she will not be assigned a teacher for the 2018–19 school year until you do so.
