Country Meadows Principal's Message - November 8th

Kids working on a project

Country Meadows families,

It has been another busy week at Country Meadows!  We successfully completed a fire drill on Monday, and students did a great job following adult directions and practicing how to be safe!  Our 1st and 2nd graders also participated in our PTO sponsored author visit (see below), and it was a huge success.

It is crazy to think that we have one more week left in our first trimester of school.  Having just returned from maternity leave I still feel like it's August (although Mother Nature has been providing regular reminders that it is not!).  I am excited to see the continued growth our students make as the school year progresses!

NEW *Half Day on 11/15/19*

This is a friendly reminder that next Friday, November 15th is a half day for students.  Students will be dismissed at 11:45.

NEW *Social Emotional Learning*

Social Emotional Learning, or SEL, has been intentionally embedded into District 96 instruction. Below you will find a short video clip to provide further information on the purpose, benefits, instruction, and reporting throughout the school year. If you are interested in more information regarding social emotional skills at your child's grade level, parent guides are available under the curriculum and instruction quick links on the District 96 webpage.

NEW *1st & 2nd Grade Author Visit*

Country Meadows 1st and 2nd graders were so lucky to have author and illustrator Yangsook Choi visit Friday afternoon. She has written and illustrated many books including New Cat and The Name Jar.  She took students through the creative process of bookmaking:  the power of imagination, getting an idea, writing, storyboarding, and illustrating.  Thank you so much to the PTO for providing this visit to our students!

REPEATING *Ask the Educators*

This year at Family Educator Conferences various Country Meadows Staff Members will be hosting "Ask the Educators" sessions! In these sessions, families will have the opportunity to ask lingering questions about a set list of topics. In order for our educators (coaches, specialists, interventionists, etc.) to be prepared, please fill out the attached Google Form questionnaire to help guide the conversations! Thank you!

REPEATING *Family Reading Night*

Family Reading Night is Thursday, November 21st from 6:30-7:45. Families will be able to enjoy quality time reading with your child! We will have teachers reading aloud, with fun activities to go along with each book! This year's theme is "It's Showtime at Your Library."  We are asking families to arrive on time or even early if you would like to purchase books from the book fair.

Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.  There will be two sessions. Your family will decide which stations to attend. Once a choice is made, we ask that you remain with your child inside the classroom for the entire session. We look forward to seeing you there for this fun community event to celebrate READING!   ~Mrs. Lockhart

REPEATING *Illinois School Report Card*

Through its Illinois School Report Card, the Illinois State Board of Education provides a comprehensive view for the previous year of a public school’s progress in the areas of academics, the school environment, finances, staff qualification and retention, and more.

See the Country Meadows Elementary School State Report Card for the 18–19 school year.

Country Meadows is designated an Exemplary School.

Ella ha escrito e ilustrado muchos libros incluyendo New Cat y The Name Jar.

Sinceramente,

Mrs. Meghan Bird, Directora
