Country Meadows Principal's Message - May 24th

Country Meadows Principal's Message - May 24th

Country Meadows families,

We did our best to make the most of the beautiful weather days we experienced this week!  Students could be found reading outside, enjoying Courtesy Cub countdown activities on the playground, or practicing their orchestra instruments during scheduled lessons!

This rainy weather may have kept us from having our Cub Crawl outside today, but we still made sure to have lots of fun! Each grade level got to spend 30 minutes in the gym engaging in fun activities! We are hopeful that the weather holds out for our Field Day on Tuesday!

NEW *No School on Monday, 5/27*

This is a friendly reminder that there is no school on Monday, May 27th due to the Memorial Day holiday.

NEW *Orchestra Registration*

Current 3rd grade families should use this link to register their student for Beginning 4th Grade Orchestra next year. Please be sure to turn in rental contracts to the instrument vendors by August 1st! I look forward to working with your students next year! Please reach out to Ms. Wronkiewicz with any questions or concerns.

Current 4th grade families should use this Google Form to register their student for 5th Grade Orchestra next year. Any student can join, even if they did not participate in 4th Grade Orchestra. Students can participate in both band and orchestra in 5th grade!

Current 5th grade families should use this link to register their student for 6th Grade Orchestra. 6th grade students also have the opportunity to audition for the advanced Chamber Orchestra next year. Please reach out to Ms. Wronkiewicz if your student is interested in auditioning but has not received the music.

NEW *Kindergarten Transition Day*

This Tuesday our incoming Kindergartners came to visit Country Meadows! Each child was able to meet their "pregnant principal with yellow hair" visit an art class, music class, PE class, and complete an activity with one of our 1st grade classrooms! Courtesy Cub even made a guest appearance as the students headed back to the bus, and every student was gifted a Country Meadows pencil! We can't wait for our new 1st graders to join our CM family next year!

NEW *Field Day - Tuesday, 5/28*

On Tuesday, May 28th, students will experience the fun of Field Day at Country Meadows (with a rain date set for Wednesdy, May 29th)! Children will spend a portion of the day outside, and it is advised that you apply sunscreen in the morning if necessary. Children can also bring sunscreen, but we cannot apply it to your child.

It is also advised that you dress your child for the forecasted elements. Children can wear hats & sunglasses, and if the weather looks chilly, please dress your children appropriately. Layers are always a great idea. Please have kids wear gym shoes as they’ll be running a lot (No sandals, crocs, etc.).

Thank you to our fabulous PTO who will graciously be providing all students with a pizza lunch on Field Day! All students will be provided Papa Johns pizza, Baked Lays, ice cream, and water. Select hot lunch options will be available, and students are also able to bring their own lunch if needed.

NEW *2019 Summer Reading Assignment - Remember to Read!*

We encourage summer reading for all our students. This practice is important–research suggests that students can lose more than two months of academic progress if they don't continue to read during summer months.

Please see SUMMER READING for the parent letter/reading assignment info and suggested reading resources for your student (by grade level).

NEW *Summer Area Opportunities in STEM*

We are excited to begin our Courtesy Cub Countdown on May 20th! Please take a look and prepare for all of the fun we have planned for the end of the year!

REPEATING *We Need Your Help!*

It's enrollment season!  As families move into your neighborhood, let them know it's time to register for the 2019/20 school year. It isn't uncommon for families to wait until August. It helps us immensely to secure our classroom sections. New neighbors? Spread the word! Enrollment is happening now. School offices are open through June. Registration will continue through July in the District Office at 1050 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove. Also, if you haven't registered your son or daughter and are planning on attending next year, please do so right away. Thank you!

Enjoy your long weekend, and we look forward to seeing students on Tuesday for Field Day!

Warmly,

Meghan Bird - Principal

Meghan Bird - Directora
