Country Meadows Families,
It was so nice to have students here for a full week of learning and fun! Global Play Day was a big hit, and the students loved playing with the toys and games they were able to bring in! Some classrooms celebrated the Chinese New Year, and we started to recognize Black History Month with amazing displays of the new books purchased for our learning center as well as interesting and engaging facts projected on our TV monitors. It is so refreshing that students are interested to learn more about each other, and celebrate our building theme, "This is Me!".
NEW *Valentine's Day*
It's crazy to think that Valentine's Day is next week! If you choose to include an item with your child's Valentines, please note that only non-food items are permissible.
Candy, snacks, or any sort of food item will be sent back home with your child on Valentine's day if sent to school. Non-food items are permitted, and there are many pre-packaged Valentines that can be purchased that include a trinket (i.e., pencil, erasers, book mark, etc.). Card and party stores or stores with a birthday party aisle (i.e., Target) are a great place to look for these types of items.
Here are some ideas of non-food items if you choose to include something: Pencils, erasers, stickers, play-dough, bubble wands, plastic/rubber figurines, capsules that become figures when placed in water, mini deck of cards, spinning top, crazy straws.
NEW *Global Play Day*
Global Play Day was celebrated at CM on Wednesday, and what a fun day it was! It was amazing seeing students interact creatively by building forts using blankets, playing board games, crafting, and laughing with each other. Take a look at all of the fun we had!
NEW *Girl's On The Run*
Dear Parents of 5th-grade girls!
We are excited to announce Girls on the Run- Country Meadows is back this spring! Girls on the Run is an international social-emotional learning program for girls. During practices, we play games, do activities, and train to complete a 5K run! More information about this incredible program is available at www.girlsontherun.org or www.gotrchicago.org.
The program is 10 weeks long and will begin on March 3rd! The program concludes with a 5k race in Lake County. Practices take place after school on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3-4:00 and the girls must be present for BOTH sessions during the week. There is a program fee of $155 (financial assistance is available from GOTR-Chicago).
Please note that participation for a team with two coaches, is limited to 15 students by the program rules. If more than 15 students express interest in Girls on the Run, we will conduct a lottery to select participants. If your daughter is chosen, you will receive a confirmation email from Liz Zorn and be invited to attend an informational meeting on 2/11 at 6 pm.

REPEATING *Notice of 5Essentials Student Survey Administration*
I want to inform you about a student survey for 4th–8th graders that will be administered at your child’s school.
The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. The survey asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.
Students will be required to log in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions. Instead, they will receive only aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material, for example.
Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions your student(s) are asked. Find survey questions on the Illinois 5Essentials website (https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois).

REPEATING *Create a Sticker for Our Teachers*
On March 1st teachers from District 96, 102, 103 and 125 will meet at Stevenson High School to participate in a workshop. The workshop will focus on the diversity within our community and how educators can create an equitable learning environment for all students. Our aspirational goal is to create a community in which all students feel they belong as their authentic selves. We are reaching out to students to help design a sticker with a slogan that will unite all of us around a common theme of respect and inclusion of all.
If you are interested in submitting a design and slogan for consideration, please email a document as a .pdf with your design to [email protected] or turn in a paper copy to the main office in your school. With your submission, please include your full name, grade and school you attend. Your slogan and design may contain images, words or a combination of both and should not be bigger than 6 x 3 inches. Your submission must be an original creation.
Designs need to be turned in on or before Friday, February 8th. If your design is selected you will be contacted by email by February 15th.
REPEATING * SPRING 2019 After School Clubs & Activities*
It’s time to sign up for our new spring clubs/activities! Available clubs and activities are listed below along with a Sign Up form for each club. SPRING CLUBS WILL BEGIN THE WEEK OF FEBRUARY 18TH. If your child is interested in participating in a club, please complete the form by Monday, February 11th. Students will be placed into clubs on a first come first serve basis. Some of our clubs have capacity limits, but have no fear! If we reach capacity in a specific club, we will problem solve a way to ensure all students have access to the club at some point during the school year.
*The days that clubs are offered are based on sponsor availability. You may need to prioritize your child’s preferences if they are interested in two clubs that take place on the same day.
*Again, all students will have a chance to participate in the club of their choice. We may run shorter sessions of clubs to ensure we are able to accommodate all student interest!
*If your child is already enrolled in Chorus, please know that Chorus will continue, and you do NOT need to re-enroll!

Drama Club (4th & 5th Grade): Calling all 4th & 5th Grade grade students! Come join Drama Club where students will build confidence, improve speaking and listening skills, and make new friends! Dance Club (2nd & 3rd Grade): Calling all 2nd & 3rd Grade grade students! Come join Dance Club Dance where you will learn all about dance, and have lots of fun! Art Club (1st & 2nd Grade): Students will further enhance their love of art through creating various forms of artwork. Culture Crew (1st-5th Grade): During their time in Culture Club students will learn about their own culture, learn about the cultures of their classmates, and discover the variety of cultures around the world. REPEATING *Sexual Assault & Abuse Awareness/Prevention Curriculum Preview Opportunity*
For Parents: Sexual Assault and Abuse Awareness/Prevention Curriculum Preview Opportunity
An Illinois Law known as Erin's Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assualt and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.
Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.
The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult's touching him or her is not the child's fault.
The age-appropriate presentation to Country Meadows students will be during the school day on Wed., Feb 13.

REPEATING *Attention Parents of Current 5th Graders*
If your student is currently a 5th grader at our school, you will need to prove residency again between Jan. 8 and Feb. 15, 2019, in order to receive the email to register him or her for the 2019–2020 school year.
Only parents of current kindergartners and 5th graders have this requirement.
To prove residency, please bring to our school office the following:
• a current monthly mortgage or lease statement OR property tax bill
AND
• a current utility bill

¡Fue agradable tener a los estudiantes por una semana entera de aprendizaje y de diversión! ¡El Día Mundial del Juego Escolar fue todo un éxito, y a los estudiantes les encantó jugar con los juguetes y con los juegos que trajeron! Algunas clases celebraron el Año Nuevo Chino, y empezamos a darle un reconocimiento al Mes de la Historia Afroestadounidense con demostraciones fantásticas de los nuevos libros que compramos para nuestro centro de enseñanza así como con datos interesantes que se mostraron en nuestros monitores. ¡Es tan alentador ver cómo los estudiantes se interesan por aprender más y más sobre cada uno, y celebrar nuestro tema, "¡Así soy yo!”
NUEVO *Día de San Valentín*
¿Pueden creer que la próxima semana celebramos el Día de San Valentín? Si usted quiere incluir algún producto en las tarjetitas/bolsitas de san valentín de su hijo, por favor recuerde que solo se permiten productos no alimentarios.
Cualquier dulce, golosina, merienda, o cualquier tipo de comida que su hijo lleve a la escuela será enviado de regreso a casa en el Día de San Valentín. Se permiten productos no alimentarios, y existen muchas tarjetitas de San Valentín ya previamente empacadas que pueden comprar (por ejemplo., lápices, borradores, calcomanías/pegatinas, etc.). Existen varias tiendas (Target, Party City) en donde podrá conseguir estos artículos.

NUEVO *Día Mundial del Juego Escolar*
¡El miércoles celebramos el Día Mundial del Juego Escolar en CM, y fue divertido! Fue asombroso ver cómo los estudiantes interactuaban de forma creativa al construir fuertes usando cobijas, juegos de mesa, manualidades, y riéndose el uno con el otro. ¡Mira cómo nos divertimos!
NUEVO *Girl's On The Run*
¡Estimados padres de las niñas de 5º Grado!
¡Estamos emocionados en anunciar que Girls on the Run- en Country Meadows regresa esta primavera! Girls on the Run es un programa de aprendizaje internacional socio-emocional para niñas. ¡Durante las prácticas, participamos en diferentes juegos, hacemos diferentes actividades, y entrenamos para completar una carrera 5K run! Puede encontrar más información sobre este increíble programa en www.girlsontherun.org o en www.gotrchicago.org.
¡El programa dura 10 semanas y empezaremos el 3 de marzo! Este programa concluye con una carrera de 5k en Lake County. Las prácticas se realizan después de clases los lunes y miércoles de 3-4:00 y las niñas DEBEN estar presentes para AMBAS sesiones durante la semana. Hay una cuota de $155 (habrá ayuda financiera en GOTR-Chicago).

REITERACIÓN *Crea una calcomanía para nuestros maestros*
El 1º de marzo los maestros de los Distritos 96, 102, 103 y 125 se reunirán en Stevenson High School para participar en un seminario. El seminario se enfocará en la diversidad que existe dentro de nuestra comunidad y cómo los maestros pueden crear un ambiente de aprendizaje equitativo para todos los estudiantes. El objetivo que aspiramos es crear una comunidad en la cual todos los estudiantes se sientan que pertenecen como seres auténticos que son. Queremos que los estudiantes ayuden con el diseño de una calcomanía que tenga un eslogan que nos unirá en torno a un tema común de respeto e integración de todos.
Si estás interesado en enviar un diseño con un eslogan para ser considerado, por favor manda un documento .pdf por correo electrónico con tu diseño a [email protected] o entrega una copia en papel a la oficina de tu escuela. Con tu formulario de envío, por favor incluye tu nombre completo, grado y la escuela a la que asistes. Tu eslogan y diseño pueden contener imágenes, palabras o una combinación de ambos y no debe medir más de 6 x 3 pulgadas, además debe ser una creación original.
Los diseños deben ser entregados el viernes 8 de febrero o antes. Si se selecciona tu diseño te enviaremos un correo electrónico antes del 15 de febrero.
REITERACIÓN * Actividades y Clubs de Primavera después de clases 2019*
¡Es hora de inscribirse para las nuevas actividades/clubs de primavera! Las actividades y clubs están mencionadas abajo junto con el formulario de inscripción para cada club. LOS CLUBS DE PRIMAVERA EMPEZARÁN LA SEMANA DEL 18 DE FEBRERO. Si su hijo está interesado en participar en un club, por favor complete el formulario para el lunes 11 de febrero. Los estudiantes serán colocados en los clubs por orden de llegada. ¡Algunos de nuestros clubs tienen límites de capacidad, pero no se preocupe! REITERACIÓN *Oportunidad de un Avance del Currículo sobre la Concientización/Prevención del Abuso Sexual*
Una ley del Estado de Illinois llamada Ley de Erin requiere que las escuelas implementen un currículo de edad apropiada sobre la concientización/prevención del abuso sexual para los estudiantes de Kindergarten hasta el Grado 12.
El Distrito de Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 ha investigado y observado las mejores prácticas y programas para poder llevar a cabo esta enseñanza, seleccionando a Victor Pacini para que presente Ser Visto y Escuchado (Be Seen & Heard ©).
El enfoque de su presentación es la de enseñar a los niños las habilidades básicas para que puedan estar seguros en situaciones de peligro o de abuso. Los conceptos que serán discutidos incluirá distinguir la diferencia entre la manera segura y la manera insegura de que alguien te toca, las reglas del hogar y de la escuela, decir NO, secretos seguros/inseguros, y decirle a un adulto de confianza, así como el reforzamiento de que si un adulto lo toca, no es culpa del niño.
Los padres que quieran un avance sobre la información que él presentará a los estudiantes de primaria de KCSD96 pueden asistir a un programa con Mr. Pacini a las 5:30 p.m. el jueves 7 de febrero., en la escuela Ivy Hall, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.
Esta presentación de edad apropiada se llevará a cabo el 13 de febrero durante el día escolar para los estudiantes de Country Meadows.
