I want to end this week by sharing some great news! Beginning in 2018, each Illinois school is receiving a Summative Designation, a measure of progress in academic performance and student success. I am INCREDIBLY proud to share that Country Meadows Elementary School has earned the highest designation of EXEMPLARY for the 2017-2018 school year. Please read below for additional information related to this designation.
I would like to thank our fabulous PTO for making the Book Fair happen for our students, and Mrs. Lockhart & the CM staff for hosting such a fun night full of reading activities!

Simply fill out this Google Form to provide input!
There are SUCH neat things happening at CM! Mrs. Cohen, our technology coach, has been working with all grade level teams to incorporate more technology in student learning. Our 5th Graders researched an endangered animal of their choice and wrote an informational essay. After writing, they chose a way to present their information to their classmates. They used this Technology Choice Board to help them with their presentation medium. Students reported having SO much fun! See for yourself!

NEW *Illinois Report Card Designation*
Beginning in 2018, each Illinois school is receiving a Summative Designation, a measure of progress in academic performance and student success.
Four Designations:
-
Exemplary – Schools performing in the top 10 percent of schools statewide with no underperforming student groups.
-
Commendable – A school that has no underperforming student groups, a graduation rate greater than 67 percent, and whose performance is not in the top 10 percent of schools statewide.
-
Underperforming – A school in which one or more student groups is performing at or below the level of the “all students” group in the lowest performing 5 percent of schools.
-
Lowest Performing – A school that is in the lowest-performing 5 percent of schools in Illinois and any high school with a graduation rate of 67 percent or less.

NEW *Parent Drop Off*
Please remember these Parent Drop Off expectations:
1) Students should be let out on the CURB SIDE of the car. This ensures all students remain safe. We do not want children walking through the parking lot or exiting the car on the parking lot side.
2) Your child should exit the car when you have reached the green pain on the curb. If you are still driving next to the red painted curb, your child should remain in the car.
3) When your child exits the car, he/she should enter the building through the side door of the school, NOT THE MAIN ENTRANCE.
4) If the Parent Drop Off entrance on the side of the school is closed when you arrive, please park your car, walk your child inside, and sign him/her in. We will make sure the Parent Drop Off door remains open until all school doors are locked for the beginning of the day.

Fall Parent/Teacher conferences are on November 19 & 20th. We are looking for parents to help donate some items for the Conference Meal the PTO provides. NEW *UPDATED Parent Educator Child Care*
Child care will be available at each of the elementary schools during conferences. Children ages 2 and up are welcome to join District 96 staff in the CM cafeteria so that parents can attend conferences and parent workshops. There will be a variety of quiet activities available for children to participate in. Stop by, sign your child in and you are all set! Please ensure that children attending are healthy. Snacks will not be available and please do not bring food for your child.

NEW *UPDATED Parent Educator Conferences*
I apologize for the error in last week's Principal's Message. This information is correct & updated. This year during Parent Educator Conferences, we will be offering parent education courses focused both on Standards-Based Reporting and Literacy & Math Blocks. These sessions will be run by District 96 staff and will be hosted in the CM Learning Center. Please drop into one of the sessions listed to learn more about Standards-Based Reporting and Literacy & Math Instructional Blocks.
Course Descriptions *All Courses Take Place in the CM Learning Center
Standards-Based Reporting: The purpose of this session is to gain familiarity around the new number system for grading, understand umbrella standards/targets in literacy, and discuss mastery expectations for targets that repeat throughout the year.
Literacy and Math Instructional Blocks: The purpose of this session is to gain a deeper understanding of what a typical day of instruction looks like for students in both literacy and math.

NEW *Culture Night Invitation*
On November 28th, Woodlawn and Country Meadows will come together for our first annual, "This is Us... We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows" event! Given the rich diversity of the cultures in our shared community, we are looking forward to engaging families and students in a night where we celebrate about our own culture, learn/celebrate the cultures of others, and build a sense of a shared WL/CM culture.
Even though you may not be interested in presenting/performing at our culture night, we would like to extend the invitation for you to join us for this special night to learn more about our incredible Country Meadows/Woodlawn community! Please join us on 11/28 from 6:00-8:00. Performances will take place from 6:00-7:00 and booths will be available for visiting from 7:00-8:00. Please join us at any point during the evening!
I am continually proud of our school community, and our Exemplary rating is very telling of the hard work that staff, students, and families put into student learning. I look forward to seeing you all at Family/Educator Conferences next week, and I hope you enjoy the short break that follows!

¡Hay TANTAS cosas estupendas que suceden en CM! Mrs. Cohen, nuestra instructora de tecnología, ha estado trabajando con los equipos de todos los niveles de grado para incorporar más tecnología en el aprendizaje del estudiante. Nuestros estudiantes de 5º grado investigaron sobre un animal en peligro de extinción de su interés y escribieron un ensayo informativo. Después de escribir, ellos escogieron la mejor manera de presentar su información con sus compañeros. Ellos usaron la Junta de Elección de Tecnología como apoyo para hacer su presentación. ¡Los estudiantes dijeron que disfrutaron MUCHO! ¡Écha un vistazo!

NUEVO *Área donde dejar a sus hijos*
Por favor recuerde las expectativas del área para dejar a sus hijos:
1) Los estudiantes deben salir del carro del LADO DE LA BANQUETA/ACERA. Es más seguro para los estudiantes. No queremos que los estudiantes caminen por el estacionamiento o que salgan del carro por el lado del estacionamiento.
2) Su hijo debe salir del carro cuando usted haya llegado a la línea verde del lado de la banqueta. No permita que su hijo se baje del carro si usted está al lado de la banqueta que está marcada de rojo.
3) Cuando su hijo sale del carro, debe entrar al edificio por la puerta de al lado de la escuela, NO POR LA PUERTA PRINCIPAL.
4) Si la puerta de al lado está cerrada cuando usted llega, favor de estacionar su carro, acompañe a su hijo a la oficina e ingrese la entrada (sign-in). Trataremos de que la puerta del área de dejar a sus hijos se mantenga abierta hasta que todas las puertas de la escuela se cierran en el inicio del día.

Las conferencias de Otoño de Padres/Educadores son el 19 y 20 de noviembre. Estamos buscando padres que puedan donar algunos artículos para la Comida de las Conferencias que proporciona el PTO. NUEVO *ACTUALIZACIÓN-Cuidado Infantil*
Habrá cuidado infantil disponible en cada escuela primaria durante las conferencias. Los niños de 2 años de edad en adelante pueden venir a la cafetería de CM para que los padres asistan a las conferencias y a los cursos para padres. Habrá una variedad de actividades para que los niños puedan participar. ¡Pase, ingrese la entrada de su hijo y listo! Por favor asegúrese de que los niños que asistan estén saludables. No habrá meriendas disponibles y por favor no traiga comida para su hijo.

Informes Basados en Estándares: El propósito de este curso es para que se familiarice con el sistema nuevo de calificaciones, entender los estándares/objetivos en el alfabetismo, y conversar sobre las expectativas de dominio para los objetivos que se repiten a lo largo del año escolar.
Bloques de Alfabetismo y Matemáticas: El propósito de esta sesión es para que tenga una mejor comprensión de un día normal de enseñanza para los estudiantes tanto en alfabetismo como en matemáticas.

NUEVO *Invitación a la Noche Cultural*
¡El 28 de noviembre, Woodlawn y Country Meadows se unirán para celebrar nuestro primer evento, "Somos Nosotros ... Somos Woodlawn y Country Meadows"! Dado que existe una gran diversidad de culturas en nuestra comunidad, esperamos que las familias y los estudiantes se involucren donde celebraremos sobre nuestra cultura, aprenderemos/celebraremos sobre nuestra propia cultura y la de los demás, y desarrollaremos un sentido de una cultura compartida en WL/CM.
¡Aunque usted no esté interesado en presentar/interpretar en nuestra noche cultural, queremos extender nuestra invitación para que usted se una con nosotros para esta noche especial y para que aprenda más sobre nuestra comunidad de Country Meadows/Woodlawn! Acompáñenos el 28 de noviembre de 6:00 a 8:00. Las presentaciones se llevarán a cabo de 6:00 a 7:00 y los puestos estarán disponibles para ser visitados de 7:00 a 8:00.
