Country Meadows Families,
I think it's safe to say that not many people have had the opportunity to lead a parade dressed as a big bag of jellybeans! I had forgotten how much fun Halloween is at the elementary level, and I am SO glad I was graciously reminded on Wednesday. The smiles, the giggles, and the creative costumes/party activities were truly incredible. Thank you to everyone who made the fun possible for all of our students!

NEW *Half Day on Friday, 11/9*
On Friday, November 9th, students will be dismissed at 11:45 to accommodate teacher participation in our first School Improvement Day. Please arrange for your child to be picked up at this time.
NEW *Toys from Home*
Please remind your child to leave all toys, games, and trading cards at home. There have been quite a few instances where these items have been lost, traded, or misplaced. If there is indoor recess due to inclement weather, classrooms are supplied with games and activities for children to use.
NEW *Extended Absences*
Please inform the office of any vacations or extended absences your child will experience. As indicated by the parent/teacher handbook, teachers are not required to provide work for students to complete over the extended absence, but activities such as journaling and reading are great activities for students to engage in while on vacation. Our instruction is differentiated daily based on student data and performance, so it is difficult for staff to provide such instruction without students being present. Thank you for your understanding, and please let me know if you have any additional questions.
NEW *PTO Update*
Mark your calendar for the upcoming 3rd & 4th grade movie night on November 2nd where they will enjoy Hotel Transylvania 3. The fall Book Fair is almost here, NOV 15th – 19th; more details to follow. Fall Parent/Teacher conferences are on November 12th – 16th. We are looking for parents to help donate some items for the Conference Meal the PTO provides. Please take a look at the follow link Teacher Conference Meal Donation and donate if you can help. Country Meadow's Variety Show 2018-2019 will be January 31st, 2019. NEW *Parent Educator Conferences*
During both days of conferences, parent education courses will be offered on site by District 96 staff. Please look for more information in next week's Principal's Message.
Parent Educator Conferences are just around the corner! If you have a child who receives additional support from our student services team as indicated by a 504 plan or IEP, please know that providers will be available for 15 minute conferences to provide updates related to the specific goal areas they address with your child. If there are additional questions regarding the students 504/IEP, team members will indicate if the conversation is better suited for an IEP meeting with all team members present.
REPEATING *Family Reading Night*
Family Reading Night is Thursday, November 15th from 6:30-7:45. Families will be able to enjoy quality time reading with your child! We will have teachers reading aloud and fun activities to go along with each book! Our theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere. We are asking families to arrive on time or even early if you want to purchase books from the book fair.
Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There will be two sessions. Your family will decide which stations to attend. Once a choice is made, we ask that you remain with your child inside the classroom for the entire session. We look forward to seeing you there for this community event to celebrate READING!
REPEATING *Culture Night*
On November 28th, Woodlawn and Country Meadows will come together for our first annual, "This is Us... We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows" event! Given the rich diversity of the cultures in our shared community, we are looking forward to engaging families and students in a night where we celebrate about our own culture, learn/celebrate the cultures of others, and build a sense of a shared WL/CM culture.
If your child and family are interested in participating in this event, please indicate so by completing this Google Form (English) or this Google Form (Spanish). We will be communicating the logistics of the event when we have a better understanding of how many participants we will have and how they prefer to participate.
We are so excited that we already have 25 families committed to the event, “I am me… We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows.” We would like to answer some of the common questions in the FAQ below. We will also host two Question/Answer meeting for families who would like to further discuss and understand how to contribute to the evening.

No. The night will be in the cafeteria area. Families are able to bring ANY food to represent their unique culture. |

Will each country have a booth to present their culture? |
If you would like to have a presentation, you will have a table/booth/area to present. We will send out a form shortly to understand what each family needs for their presentation. We will work to provide any resource available to support the presentation. Families will have assigned spaces to present. |

Is there a time limit for presentations? |
We will create a schedule for the night based on family responses. The night will be a combination of jigsawed presentations (walking from family-to-family to share their presentations) and performances. The exact schedule will be released as soon as possible. Although families might have A LOT of information to share about their culture, each family interaction might share only a part of the presentation. |

Is there a time limit for performances? |
We suggest that performances stay between two to four to ensure that all families can perform. |

How long will the event be? |
The event will last approximately two hours. The exact schedule will be created after all interested families have completed the google form. |

Can we present on religion? |
Yes. Religion is a key component of culture. |

Will there be TV screens and monitors to use? |
Yes. We will develop and send out a form in the near future. This form will ask you what resources that you need for your presentation. We will do our best to provide you with any resources available. We have a limited number of TV screens and monitors available. |

Can my student participate in a presentation and a performance? |
Yes. There will be two separate times in the evening: a time for performances and a time for presentations. |
Enjoy the first weekend of November! Conrad and I have no plans this weekend, and I couldn't be more excited! After my brother's wedding last weekend and a fun-filled week at Country Meadows, I am definitely looking forward to some relaxation! :)

NUEVO *Juguetes de la Casa*
Por favor recuérdele a su hijo que debe dejar todos sus juguetes, juegos, y tarjetas de intercambio en la casa. Han habido algunas situaciones en las que estos objetos se han intercambiado o se han perdido. Si el recreo deber ser dentro de la escuela debido al clima, los salones deben proporcionar diferentes juegos y actividades para los estudiantes .
NUEVO *Ausencias Extendidas*
Por favor informe a la oficina si su hijo va a estar ausente por mucho tiempo o si se van de vacaciones. Tal como se indica en el manual de padres/maestros, no se requiere que los maestros proporcionen tareas/trabajos a los estudiantes para que completen a lo largo de la ausencia extendida, pero ciertas actividades como llevar un diario o la lectura son actividades que los estudiantes pueden realizar mientras están de vacaciones. Nuestra enseñanza es diferenciada, quiere decir que se basa en la información y el desempeño del estudiante así que es difícil para los maestros brindar tal enseñanza sin que los estudiantes estén presentes. ¡Se aproximan las Conferencias de Familias y Educadores! Durante ambos días de las conferencias se ofrecerán cursos de educación para padres allí mismo por un equipo del Distrito 96. Podrá encontrar más información en el mensaje de la Directora de la próxima semana. Si usted tiene un hijo que recibe apoyo adicional de nuestro equipo de servicios de estudiantes como se indica en el plan 504 o el IEP, por favor sepa que los proveedores estarán disponibles para conferencias de 15 minutos y así ofrecerle actualizaciones relacionadas con las áreas específicas de las metas que tienen que ver con su hijo. ¡El 28 de noviembre, Woodlawn y Country Meadows se unirán para nuestro primer evento, "Somos Nosotros... Somos Woodlawn y Country Meadows"!
