Country Meadows Families,
It was another busy week at Country Meadows! We successfully completed our Severe Weather Drill, and students showed, once again, that they are rockstars when it comes to following adult directions in a serious situation! In some ways it's hard to believe that the month of October comes to an end next week, but on the other hand it makes complete sense when I see how efficient students are when following classroom and building routines!

Has your child or your child's teacher ever mentioned Go Noodle? You may be wondering, "What does that even mean?!". While completing walk throughs this week, I walked in to Mrs. Fey's 1st grade class using a Go Noodle to release some energy and get their bodies and minds ready for their lesson. Take a look, and try not to smile!
REMINDER *Halloween*
Please remember that students do not wear their costumes to school. They will change into their costumes after lunch! When selecting or creating a costume with your child to wear at school, please be sure that the following expectations are followed:
-Must be appropriate for school
-No masks, blood, super scary stuff, general ickiness, or weapons
-No cigars or cigarette items
-No bare tummies
-Please apply BEFORE SCHOOL & keep hair coloring and make-up simple
**If you are unsure about a costume or costume prop, please contact your child's classroom teacher. Students whose costumes do not meet these expectations will be asked to adjust their costume for the school festivities.**
Students will change into their costumes AFTER LUNCH. It is strongly recommended that students come to school with makeup/hair already applied to ensure they are ready for the parade! On October 31st, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a parade outdoors (dependent upon the weather) as well as the classroom party. Please see some reminders below:
- The parade may be viewed by families outdoors. If it rains, the parade will be indoors for students and staff only.
- Weather permitting, the parade will make its way outside around 1:40ish. Please know this time is not definite!
- The Halloween party is by invitation only from the PTO. At this point, you should know if you are a volunteer (if so, please no extra siblings)!

NEW *Culture Night*
On November 28th, Woodlawn and Country Meadows will come together for our first annual, "This is Us... We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows" event! Given the rich diversity of the cultures in our shared community, we are looking forward to engaging families and students in a night where we celebrate about our own culture, learn/celebrate the cultures of others, and build a sense of a shared WL/CM culture.
If your child and family are interested in participating in this event, please indicate so by completing this Google Form (English) or this Google Form (Spanish). We will be communicating the logistics of the event when we have a better understanding of how many participants we will have and how they prefer to participate.
We are so excited that we already have 25 families committed to the event, “I am me… We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows.” We would like to answer some of the common questions in the FAQ below. We will also host two Question/Answer meeting for families who would like to further discuss and understand how to contribute to the evening.

Will each country have a booth to present their culture? |
If you would like to have a presentation, you will have a table/booth/area to present. We will send out a form shortly to understand what each family needs for their presentation. We will work to provide any resource available to support the presentation. Families will have assigned spaces to present. |

Is there a time limit for presentations? |
We will create a schedule for the night based on family responses. The night will be a combination of jigsawed presentations (walking from family-to-family to share their presentations) and performances. The exact schedule will be released as soon as possible. Although families might have A LOT of information to share about their culture, each family interaction might share only a part of the presentation. |

Is there a time limit for performances? |
We suggest that performances stay between two to four to ensure that all families can perform. |

How long will the event be? |
The event will last approximately two hours. The exact schedule will be created after all interested families have completed the google form. |

Can we present on religion? |
Yes. Religion is a key component of culture. |

Will there be TV screens and monitors to use? |
Yes. We will develop and send out a form in the near future. This form will ask you what resources that you need for your presentation. We will do our best to provide you with any resources available. We have a limited number of TV screens and monitors available. |

Can my student participate in a presentation and a performance? |
Yes. There will be two separate times in the evening: a time for performances and a time for presentations. |

Fall Parent/Teacher conferences are on November 12th – 16th. We are looking for parents to help donate some items for the Conference Meal the PTO provides. NEW *Parent Educator Conference Reminder*
Parent Educator Conferences are just around the corner! If you have a child who receives additional support from our student services team as indicated by a 504 plan or IEP, please know that providers will be available for 15 minute conferences to provide updates related to the specific goal areas they address with your child. If there are additional questions regarding the students 504/IEP, team members will indicate if the conversation is better suited for an IEP meeting with all team members present.
Please click this link to sign up for fall conferences with your child's educators. Please remember, you are signing up for ONE, 15-minute appointment per educator, per student. All educators who work with students in any capacity also have sign-up slots available in Sign-Up Genius. If you would like to, you may sign-up to see any educator who works with your child. As a reminder, if you are unable to attend these conferences on these dates, please email the educator you are interested in speaking with to setup a 15-minute phone conference.
In addition to individual conferences with educators, parent education opportunities will be provided both days in our school. More information will be shared in the near future!

REPEATING *Family Reading Night*
Family Reading Night is Thursday, November 15th from 6:30-7:45. Families will be able to enjoy quality time reading with your child! We will have teachers reading aloud and fun activities to go along with each book! Our theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere. We are asking families to arrive on time or even early if you want to purchase books from the book fair.
Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There will be two sessions. Your family will decide which stations to attend. Once a choice is made, we ask that you remain with your child inside the classroom for the entire session. We look forward to seeing you there for this community event to celebrate READING!
As you're reading this, I am at my baby brother's wedding in Minneapolis! I am so excited for time with family this weekend, and I'm crossing my fingers for no rain (or snow)! We can't wait for all of the fun that awaits us next week! Have a wonderful weekend, and we will see students back at CM on Monday!

RECORDATORIO *Halloween*

-Debe ser apropiado para la escuela
-Ningún tipo de máscara, sangre, cosas muy espantosas, o armas
-Los objetos con cigarros y cigarrillos son prohibidos
-Los estómagos deben estar cubiertos
-Por favor mantenga los colores de cabello y de maquillaje simples
**Si no está seguro sobre algún tipo de disfraz o accesorio, contacte a la maestra de su hijo. Los estudiantes que usen un disfraz que no cumpla con estas expectativas deberán modificar su disfraz para las actividades escolares.**
El 31 de octubre, todos los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el desfile que se llevará a cabo al aire libre (si el clima lo permite) al igual que en la fiesta del salón.

NUEVO *Noche Cultural*
¡El 28 de noviembre, Woodlawn y Country Meadows se unirán para nuestro primer evento, "Somos Nosotros... Somos Woodlawn y Country Meadows"! Dado que existe una gran diversidad de culturas en nuestra comunidad, esperamos que las familias y los estudiantes se involucren donde celebraremos sobre nuestra cultura, aprenderemos/celebraremos sobre nuestra propia cultura y la de los demás, y desarrollaremos un sentido de una cultura compartida en WL/CM.
Si su hijo y su familia están interesados en participar en este evento, puede completar este Formulario de Google. Estaremos explicando sobre el evento cuando sepamos cuántos participantes habrán y de cómo prefieran participar.

NUEVO *Recordatorio de Las Conferencias de Familias y Educadores *
¡Se aproximan las Conferencias de Familias y Educadores! Si usted tiene un hijo que recibe apoyo adicional de nuestro equipo de servicios de estudiantes como se indica en el plan 504 o el IEP, por favor sepa que los proveedores estarán disponibles para conferencias por 15 minutos y así ofrecerle actualizaciones relacionadas con las áreas específicas de las metas que tienen que ver con su hijo. La Noche de Lectura Familiar es el jueves 15 de noviembre de 6:30 a 7:45. ¡Las familias podrán disfrutar de un tiempo agradable de lectura con sus hijos! ¡Tendremos maestros leyendo en voz alta y actividades divertidas de acuerdo con cada libro! Nuestro tema es La Lectura Te lleva Por Todas Partes. Pedimos que las familias lleguen a tiempo o un poquito más temprano si desea comprar libros en la feria del libro.
Recuerde que los niños deben estar acompañados por un adulto en todo momento. Habrán dos sesiones. Su familia decidirá a cuáles estaciones asistir. En cuanto haya decidido, pedimos que usted se quede dentro del salón para toda la sesión. ¡Esperamos verlos en este evento comunitario para celebrar LA LECTURA!
