It was so much fun to see all of you at our First Annual Carnival Night sponsored by our incredible PTO. I huge thank you to everyone who made the night possible. I have to admit that after having so much fun at Carnival Night, I am equally as excited for our upcoming Culture Night. This week I want to share a quick video of our Intervention Block in action. During the 30 minute intervention block, all new instruction stops and teachers have an opportunity to pull students in an effort to differentiate instruction based on student data. This may look like helping a student master a learning target, pushing students to extend their knowledge in a specific area, or recieve various supports from other adults in the building (reading specialist, social work, speech and language, etc.). This happens every day in each classroom! Here is a sneak peak at the intervention block or "Student Success Time" in Mrs. Tlapek's 4th grade classroom! The students were VERY eager to tell me all about how this time works in their classrooms!

Just a friendly reminder that is an early release for students. All students will be dismissed one hour early at 2:00pm.
NEW *Family Reading Night*
Family Reading Night is Thursday, November 15th from 6:30-7:45. Families will be able to enjoy quality time reading with your child! We will have teachers reading aloud and fun activities to go along with each book! Our theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere. We are asking families to arrive on time or even early if you want to purchase books from the book fair.
Please keep in mind that children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. There will be two sessions. Your family will decide which stations to attend. Once a choice is made, we ask that you remain with your child inside the classroom for the entire session. We look forward to seeing you there for this community event to celebrate READING!
NEW *You Must Stop*
The Buffalo Grove Police Department reports an increase in motorists passing stopped school buses that are loading and unloading students. Because students’ safety is our priority, officers will be monitoring areas where serious violations such as this are prevalent.
Please review the law:
Drivers must stop before meeting or overtaking a school bus loading or unloading passengers on a TWO-lane roadway (even if there is a raised median dividing the roadway).
Drivers must remain stopped until the Stop arm on the school bus is no longer extended and the flashing lights are turned off (or the bus driver signals the driver to pass).
A driver failing to do so may be charged with the violation and receive a mandatory court appearance. Passing a stopped school bus has a fine of $500–$1200. The driving privileges of a person convicted of passing a stopped school bus will be suspended for 3 months for the first offense and one year for the second offense.
When is it permissible for a driver to pass a stopped school bus?
It is permissible when the driver is on a highway with FOUR or more lanes (at least two lanes in either direction) and is traveling in the opposite direction of the bus.
NEW *Culture Night*
On November 28th, Woodlawn and Country Meadows will come together for our first annual, "This is Us... We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows" event! Given the rich diversity of the cultures in our shared community, we are looking forward to engaging families and students in a night where we celebrate about our own culture, learn/celebrate the cultures of others, and build a sense of a shared WL/CM culture.
If your child and family are interested in participating in this event, please indicate so by completing this Google Form (English) or this Google Form (Spanish). We will be communicating the logistics of the event when we have a better understanding of how many participants we will have and how they prefer to participate.

REPEATING *Fall Family Educator Conference Sign Up*
Please click this link to sign up for fall conferences with your child's educators. Please remember, you are signing up for ONE, 15-minute appointment per educator, per student. All educators who work with students in any capacity also have sign-up slots available in Sign-Up Genius. If you would like to, you may sign-up to see any educator who works with your child. As a reminder, if you are unable to attend these conferences on these dates, please email the educator you are interested in speaking with to setup a 15-minute phone conference.
In addition to individual conferences with educators, parent education opportunities will be provided both days in our school. More information will be shared in the near future!

REPEATING *Halloween*
Stores are full of Halloween costumes, and I'm sure that your child is excitedly looking forward to getting a Halloween costume together for this year's festivities. When selecting or creating a costume with your child to wear at school, please be sure that the following expectations are followed:
-Must be appropriate for school
-No masks, blood, super scary stuff, general ickiness, or weapons
-No cigars or cigarette items
-No bare tummies
-Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
**If you are unsure about a costume or costume prop, please contact your child's classroom teacher. Students whose costumes do not meet these expectations will be asked to adjust their costume for the school festivities.**
Students will change into their costumes AFTER LUNCH. It is strongly recommended that students come to school with makeup/hair already applied to ensure they are ready for the parade! On October 31st, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a parade outdoors (dependent upon the weather) as well as the classroom party. Please see some reminders below:
- The parade may be viewed by families outdoors. If it rains, the parade will be indoors for students and staff only.
- Weather permitting, the parade will make its way outside around 1:40ish. Please know this time is not definite!
- The Halloween party is by invitation only from the PTO. At this point, you should know if you are a volunteer (if so, please no extra siblings)!

Esta semana quiero compartir un video de nuestro Tiempo de Intervención en acción. Durante los 30 minutos de intervención, toda nuestra enseñanza nueva se detiene y los maestros tienen la oportunidad de sacar a los estudiantes en un esfuerzo por diferenciar la enseñanza según los datos de los estudiantes. Esto se puede observar a través de la ayuda a un estudiante para que domine una meta de aprendizaje, motivar a los estudiantes para que expandan su conocimiento en un área específico, o recibir varios apoyos de otros adultos en el edificio (un especialista en lectura, trabajo social, habla y lenguaje, etc.). ¡Esto sucede todos los días en cada salón! ¡Mira el tiempo de intervención o "Tiempo Exitoso del Estudiante" en la clase de cuarto grado de Mrs. Tlapek! ¡Los estudiantes estaban MUY ansiosos en contarme todo sobre cómo funciona este tiempo en sus clases!

NUEVO *Noche de Lectura Familiar*
La Noche de Lectura Familiar es el jueves 15 de noviembre de 6:30 a 7:45. ¡Las familias podrán disfrutar de un tiempo agradable de lectura con sus hijos! ¡Tendremos maestros leyendo en voz alta y actividades divertidas de acuerdo con cada libro! Nuestro tema es La Lectura Te lleva Por Todas Partes. Pedimos que las familias lleguen a tiempo o un poquito más temprano si desea comprar libros en la feria del libro.
Recuerde que los niños deben estar acompañados por un adulto en todo momento. Habrán dos sesiones. Su familia decidirá a cuáles estaciones asistir. En cuanto haya decidido, pedimos que usted se quede dentro del salón para toda la sesión. ¡Esperamos verlos en este evento comunitario para celebrar LA LECTURA!
NUEVO *Debes Detenerte*
El departamento de Policía de Buffalo Grove ha reportado un aumento en el número de conductores que pasan a los autobuses escolares cuando están subiendo y bajando a los estudiantes. La seguridad de nuestros estudiantes es nuestra prioridad, habrán oficiales vigilando las áreas donde suceden estas violaciones.
Por favor repase la ley:
Los conductores deben parar antes de acercarse o adelantar a un autobús que está subiendo o bajando pasajeros en una calle de DOS carriles (aunque haya un terraplén elevado dividiendo la carretera).
Los conductores deben detenerse hasta que la señal del Alto del autobús ya no esté extendida y las luces intermitentes se apaguen (o el chofer del autobús le señala al conductor que pase).
Un conductor que no cumpla con esta ley puede ser acusado con una violación y recibir recibir una comparecencia obligatoria ante la corte. La multa es de $500-1200 si pasa a un autobús que está detenido. Los privilegios de conducir de una persona condenada por pasar un autobús escolar detenido serán suspendidos por 3 meses por la primera infracción y un año por la segunda infracción.
¿Cuándo es permitido pasar a un autobús escolar que está detenido?
Es permitido cuando el conductor está en una carretera de CUATRO o más carriles (por lo menos dos carriles en cualquier dirección) y está viajando en la dirección opuesta del autobús.

¡El 28 de noviembre, Woodlawn y Country Meadows se unirán para nuestro primer evento, "Somos Nosotros... Somos Woodlawn y Country Meadows"! Dado que existe una gran diversidad de culturas en nuestra comunidad, esperamos que las familias y los estudiantes se involucren donde celebraremos sobre nuestra cultura, aprenderemos/celebraremos sobre nuestra propia cultura y la de los demás, y desarrollaremos un sentido de una cultura compartida en WL/CM.
Si su hijo y su familia está interesada en participar en este evento, puede completar el este formulario de Google Form (Español). Estaremos explicando sobre el evento cuando sepamos cuántos participantes habrán y de cómo prefieran participar.

REITERACIÓN *Anótese para la Conferencia de Familias y Educadores de este Otoño*
Haga clic en este enlace para anotarse para las conferencias de otoño con el maestro de de su hijo. Recuerde que usted se estará anotando para UNA sola reunión de 15-minutos por educador, por estudiante. Todos los educadores que trabajan con estudiantes por cualquier motivo también tienen un espacio disponible para que se anote en Sign-Up Genius. Si quiere, puede anotarse para ver a cualquier educador que trabaje con su hijo. Recuerde que, si no puede asistir a esta conferencia, puede enviar un correo electrónico al educador con el que quisiera reunirse para una conferencia por teléfono de 15 minutos.
Además de estas conferencias con los educadores, habrán oportunidades en nuestra escuela para los padres en ambos días. ¡Pronto compartiremos más información con usted!

REITERACIÓN *Halloween*
Las tiendas están llenas de disfraces de Halloween, y estoy segura de que su hijo está emocionado por conseguir un disfraz de Halloween. Al escoger o crear un disfraz para que lleve a la escuela, por favor asegúrese en seguir las siguientes expectativas:
-Debe ser apropiado para la escuela
-Ningún tipo de máscara, sangre, cosas muy espantosas, o armas
-Se prohibe los objetos con cigarros y cigarrillos
-Los estómagos deben estar cubiertos
-Por favor mantenga los colores de cabello y el maquillaje simple
**Si no está seguro sobre algún tipo de disfraz o accesorio, contacte a la maestra de su hijo. Los estudiantes que usen un disfraz que no cumpla con estas expectativas deberán modificar su disfraz para las actividades escolares.**
El 31 de octubre, todos los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el desfile que se llevará a cabo al aire libre (según el clima) al igual que en la fiesta del salón.
Recuerde que:

Usted puede asistir al desfile si es al aire libre. Si llueve, el desfile se llevará a cabo dentro de la escuela y será solo para los estudiantes y el personal.

Si el clima lo permite, el desfile será afuera alrededor de la 1:40. ¡Por favor tenga en cuenta que ésta no será la hora definitiva!

La fiesta de Halloween es solo por invitación del PTO. Usted ya debe estar enterado si podrá ayudar, (si es así, por favor no traiga a más familiares)
