This week flew by, and it was full of learning, collaboration, and fun! Fireman Tony was here to talk with our students about fire safety and students enjoyed their experience with him! We hope to see you all here for our PTO sponsored Carnival Night tonight! It sound be a fun time, and a big thank you to everyone who is making the experience possible for students and families!

Simply fill out this Google Form to provide input!
This week I want to share some fun our 1st graders experienced in Exploration Lab. Over the past few weeks, students have collaborated in small groups and worked to create houses out of popsicle sticks (and a LOT of masking tape) that would withstand the "Big Bad Wolf" also known as our industrial sized fan. Their group project culminated with the a green screen production to see if their house would withstand the power of the "wolf"!
NEW *Fall Family Educator Conference Sign Up*
Please click this link to sign up for fall conferences with your child's educators. Please remember, you are signing up for ONE, 15-minute appointment per educator, per student. All educators who work with students in any capacity also have sign-up slots available in Sign-Up Genius. If you would like to, you may sign-up to see any educator who works with your child. As a reminder, if you are unable to attend these conferences on these dates, please email the educator you are interested in speaking with to setup a 15-minute phone conference.
In addition to individual conferences with educators, parent education opportunities will be provided both days in our school. More information will be shared in the near future!

NEW *Culture Night*
On November 28th, Woodlawn and Country Meadows will come together for our first annual, "This is Us... We are Woodlawn and Country Meadows" event! Given the rich diversity of the cultures in our shared community, we are looking forward to engaging families and students in a night where we celebrate about our own culture, learn/celebrate the cultures of others, and build a sense of a shared WL/CM culture.
If your child and family are interested in participating in this event, please indicate so by completing this Google Form (English) or this Google Form (Spanish). We will be communicating the logistics of the event when we have a better understanding of how many participants we will have and how they prefer to participate.
NEW *Halloween*
Stores are full of Halloween costumes, and I'm sure that your child is excitedly looking forward to getting a Halloween costume together for this year's festivities. When selecting or creating a costume with your child to wear at school, please be sure that the following expectations are followed:
-Must be appropriate for school
-No masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons
-No cigars or cigarette items
-No bare tummies
-Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
**If you are unsure about a costume or costume prop, please contact your child's classroom teacher. Students whose costumes do not meet these expectations will be asked to adjust their costume for the school festivities.**
On October 31st, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a parade outdoors (dependent upon the weather) as well as the classroom party. Please see some reminders below:
- The parade may be viewed by families outdoors. If it rains, the parade will be indoors for students and staff only.
- Weather permitting, the parade will make its way outside around 1:40ish. Please know this time is not definite!
- The Halloween party is by invitation only from the PTO. At this point, you should know if you are a volunteer (if so, please no extra siblings)!

NEW *Picture Retakes on Monday 10/15*
Picture retakes are scheduled for Monday, October 15th. If your child missed picture day he or she should bring an order form with them. There are additional order forms in the office, or you can order online with our School Code 10018001. If your child is simply retaking his or her picture, please have them bring their original packet the day of picture retakes.
NEW *Approved Snack List Reminder*
Please remember to use the REVISED SNACK LIST when sending your children with daily snack/birthday treats.
The District revised the APPROVED SNACK LIST this year. The items the list includes are free of the Top 8 allergens: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, soy, and wheat.
This list includes the foods that are approved for students' Daily Snacks. It also includes (for children in Grades 1–5) foods approved for Special Events such as birthday treats for a class or for PTO Halloween, Winter, or Valentine's Day parties.
IMPORTANT: All items for Daily Snacks, with the exception of fruits and vegetables, MUST be prepackaged to allow staff to easily check that snacks meet the approved requirements.

CARNIVAL NIGHT is TONIGHT! Oct. 12, from 6–8 p.m. Tickets can be bought at the event tonight!
Be sure to mark your calendar for the upcoming 3rd- & 4th-grade MOVIE NIGHT on Nov. 2, when Country Meadows kids in Grades 3 and 4 will enjoy Hotel Transylvania 3.

REPEATING *Math Night - October 15th*
Celebrate Math! Night–Oct. 15
Parents, bring your elementary students (Grades KDG–5) on Mon., Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. to Ivy Hall Elementary School, 1072 Ivy Hall Ln., Buffalo Grove, for the District's Celebrate Math! Night.
Math coaches will give a brief presentation, then parents will be able to see what learning math in KCSD96 is like from their children's perspective.

¡Esta semana pasó volando, y estuvo llena de aprendizajes, colaboraciones, y mucha diversión! ¡El bombero Tony estuvo aquí con nuestros estudiantes para hablar sobre la seguridad contra incendios y los estudiantes disfrutaron mucho! ¡Espero verlos aquí para nuestra Noche de Carnaval hoy en la noche! ¡Será divertido, y muchísimas gracias a todos los que hacen este evento posible para nuestros estudiantes y familias!

Colaboración de Comunidad: Para poder crear un modelo de una comunicación mutua, por favor déjeme saber si hay un momento en el día, una experiencia estudiantil específica, o un posible tema del cual usted quisiera saber o ver más en la sección de “Somos Nosotros-Somos Country Meadows” de mi Mensaje de La Directora! ¡Simplemente complete el Formulario Google para que pueda colaborar!
Esta semana quiero compartir la experiencia que tuvieron los estudiantes de primer grado en el Laboratorio de Exploración. En las últimas semanas, los estudiantes han colaborado en grupos pequeños y han trabajado en crear casas usando palitos de paletas (y MUCHA cinta adhesiva) para que resistan al “Lobo Malo” también conocido como nuestro ventilador de tamaño industrial. ¡Su proyecto grupal terminó con la proyección en una pantalla verde para que pudieran si su casa resistía al poder del “lobo”!

Recuerde que usted se estará anotando para UNA sola reunión de 15-minutos por educador, por estudiante. Todos los educadores que trabajan con estudiantes por cualquier motivo también tienen un espacio disponible para que se anote en Sign-Up Genius. Si quiere, puede anotarse para ver a cualquier educador que trabaje con su hijo. Recuerde que, si no puede asistir a esta conferencia, puede enviar un correo electrónico al educador con el que quisiera reunirse para una conferencia por teléfono de 15 minutos.

NUEVO *Noche Cultural*
¡El 28 de noviembre, Woodlawn y Country Meadows se unirán para nuestro primer evento, "Somos Nosotros... Somos Woodlawn y Country Meadows"! Dado que existe una gran diversidad de culturas en nuestra comunidad, esperamos que las familias y los estudiantes se involucren donde celebraremos sobre nuestra cultura, aprenderemos/celebraremos sobre nuestra propia cultura y la de los demás, y desarrollaremos un sentido de una cultura compartida en WL/CM.
Si su hijo y su familia está interesada en participar en este evento, puede completar el este formulario de Google Form (Español). Estaremos explicando sobre el evento cuando sepamos cuántos participantes habrán y de cómo prefieran participar.
NUEVO *Halloween*
Las tiendas están llenas de disfraces de Halloween, y estoy segura de que su hijo está emocionado por conseguir un disfraz de Halloween. Al escoger o crear un disfraz para que lleve a la escuela, por favor asegúrese en seguir las siguientes expectativas:
-Debe ser apropiado para la escuela
-Ningún tipo de máscara, sangre, cosas muy espantosas, o armas
-Se prohibe los objetos con cigarros y cigarrillos
-Los estómagos deben estar cubiertos
-Por favor mantenga los colores de cabello y el maquillaje simple
**Si no está seguro sobre algún tipo de disfraz o accesorio, contacte a la maestra de su hijo. Los estudiantes que usen un disfraz que no cumpla con estas expectativas deberán modificar su disfraz para las actividades escolares.**
El 31 de octubre, todos los estudiantes tendrán la oportunidad de participar en el desfile que se llevará a cabo al aire libre (según el clima) al igual que en la fiesta del salón.
Recuerde que:

Usted puede asistir al desfile si es al aire libre. Si llueve, el desfile se llevará a cabo dentro de la escuela y será solo para los estudiantes y el personal.

Si el clima lo permite, el desfile será afuera alrededor de la 1:40. ¡Por favor tenga en cuenta que esta no será la hora definitiva!

La fiesta de Halloween es solo por invitación del PTO. Usted ya debe estar enterado si podrá ayudar, (si es así, por favor no traiga a más familiares)

NUEVO *Vuelve a tomar tu foto el lunes 15 de octubre*
Vuelve a tomar tu foto el lunes 15 de octubre. Si su hijo estuvo ausente el día de tomar fotos, deberá traer el formulario para ordenar las fotos ese día. Hay más formularios en la oficina, o puede ordenar en línea con nuestro Código Escolar 10018001. Si su hijo simplemente quiere volver a tomarse la foto, por favor dígale que traiga el sobre original en ese día.
NUEVO *Lista de Las Meriendas Aprobadas*
Recuerde que debe referirse a la LISTA DE LAS MERIENDAS cuando envía meriendas o refrigerios por motivo de un cumpleaños.
El Distrito modificó la LISTA DE LAS MERIENDAS APROBADAS este año. En la lista se incluyen los productos que son libre de los 8 alérgenos principales: leche, huevos, cacahautes, frutos secos, pescado, mariscos, soya y trigo.
Esta lista incluye los alimentos que son aprobados para las meriendas diarias de los estudiantes. También incluye (para niños en los Grados 1–5) los alimentos aprobados para Eventos Especiales tales como cumpleaños, Halloween, fiestas de invierno, o para el Día de San Valentín.
IMPORTANTE: Todos los productos para las meriendas diarias, con la excepción de frutas y vegetales, DEBEN estar empacados para así permitir que el personal revise las meriendas con más facilidad y asegurarse que cumplan con todos los requisitos.

¡La NOCHE DE CARNAVAL es HOY EN LA NOCHE! 12 de octubre, de 6–8 p.m. Los tiquetes están a la venta en MEMBERSHIP TOOLKIT.
Asegúrese de anotar en el calendario para la NOCHE DE PELICULA para los estudiantes de 3 y 4 grado el 2 de noviembre, cuando los niños de 3 y 4 grado de Country Meadows disfrutarán de la película “Hotel Transylvania 3”.
