Woodlawn Principal's Blog 5/4/18

Another good week here at Woodlawn as we are into the month of May. The students had a touch of spring fever, so we were able to get outside a few times and enjoy the warm weather while learning at the same time. Just a few items this week.

iPad Policy Change for 2018-19

There is a district wide change in our damaged iPad policy heading into next year. You have been getting updates from most of the year related to broken iPads at Woodlawn. Here is the statement going to all schools for next year.

The end of the year is a busy time for everyone, but it's always good to get a head start and thinking next year. The policy concerning iPad damage will be different next year. This change is reflected on the flyer below and in greater detail in the 2018-19 Student Handbook. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Required Summer Reading

School District 96 recognizes that summer reading is critically important for a student's continued academic growth.

Students entering Grade 6 or 7 or 8 in the 2018–19 school year have a required summer reading assignment that is due on the first day of school.

Please read this PARENT LETTER for more info.

Your student must read at least ONE BOOK from The Power of One SUMMER READING LIST.

CLICK ON THIS LINK (CLICK HERE FOR SPANISH) for details of the Middle School Summer Reading Assignment and the Parental Acknowledgment Form, to be signed by the student and his or her parent or guardian.

Please contact me with any questions.

Woodlawn Chorus

Our Woodlawn Chorus did a great job last night as the performed in our Learning Center.  Mrs. Wesbecher and the students put on a terrific performance. Here are a couple of pictures!

Finally, I avoid doing home improvement projects. One minor fix up project leads to a world of hurt.  I know what happens when I make even the smallest of improvements. It spirals into every aspect of my life. Recently, the wife and I broke down and hired someone to paint the main level of our house. Trying to save a few bucks, the paint job was just the walls, so a new problem popped up. The baseboards looked bad. Which means I painted the baseboards. This act made the doors look bad. So...we painted the doors. This made the door frames look terrible. So...we painted the door frames. The white spindles on the railing need a fresh coat of paint, so here we go. Learn from my mistake here. There is now talk of new furniture. I am sure this will lead to light fixtures and talk of a kitchen improvement. My fear is this renovation will ultimately end up with my wife analyzing her soon to be 53 year old husband.
