Woodlawn Principal's Blog 12/21/17

Welcome to Winter Break!  It is amazing to me how quickly time goes by.  I swear that it was just yesterday that we were preparing for locker set up day and before you know it, four months of the school year has gone by.  I am so fortunate to be a part of this school and get to know the awesome students that go through Woodlawn.  I was so proud today, as our student body did a walk in honor of their friend Rachel.  We welcomed many members of Rachel’s family as our students walked the hallways, raising money for the PassBack foundation.  Woodlawn is a place we can all be proud of, high academic achievement and just as important, a place where your child can grow as a community member.  I am so proud of our students.  Parents, thank you for all of your donations of soccer gear and change for the PassBack initiative!

2017 Winter MAP Scores Sent Home today

Parents, please be sure to check your KDG – Grade 8 child’s backpack for Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) test results sent home today. These results are for MAP testing administered at the beginning of this month.

After our students took the Winter MAP test earlier this month, teachers worked with all middle schoolers to ensure they understand their MAP results and to set a growth goal for spring 2018. As part of a pilot program, we also began this process with some elementary students. If you have an elementary-age student, please check with him or her to determine whether that student was among those who participated in the pilot program personal goal-setting process.

*Note: A website system-wide update made by our website vendor on 12-19 created a software glitch that is causing the MAP Parent Letters to download only, rather than open in a new window. We regret this inconvenience and expect this situation to be resolved soon.

Please see the 2nd issue of the Woodlawn newsletter!  Good times.

Finally, did you know that the average person spends $300 on themselves during the holiday season?  Clearly, I am not average. I bought a hot chocolate at the mall.  Instead, my gift to myself is a very short end to my blog.  I hope everyone has/had a great holiday season!
