It is Super Bowl weekend and if you are anything like me, it is just a reason to get together with friends and have amazing appetizers. #1, #2,  #3. There is something for everyone when it comes to the Super Bowl, whether you enjoy the game, the commercials (look up Chevy Camaro Super Bowl 2012 for my favorite), the halftime show or any other reason.

iPad Breakage
About 3 times per school year, I get on the morning announcements and make a proclamation to the Woodlawn student body.  After a meeting with my district technology director, I was informed that Woodlawn has the most broken iPads in the district.  By far.  My message to the students was simple, take care of your iPad or we will have a talk.  There will be accidents and I mentioned that I am not upset with those students, but misuse and lack of respect for the property is unacceptable.  The Mighty Oz has spoken.

Visit the PTO Blog - Do it.  I dare you.

Community Service Club
The Community Service Club is is collecting miscellaneous items to send to the troops overseas.  Each teacher has a bag in their homeroom where students can put the collected items for two more weeks.  You can send to our heroes: cards, card games, footballs, magazines, any non-chocolate candy, microwave popcorn, lip balm, dried meats, crackers or snacks, gym, Soduko books, small games, prepackaged cookies, body wash or shampoo, trail mix, sunflower seeds, dice games, Yahtzee and/or adult coloring books or pencils.  Again, we will be collecting over the next two weeks, so let’s support our troops! Here are a couple of pictures to see that this is really happening.

IGSMA is this Weekend!
Call for Volunteers!
Many volunteers are still needed to assist at the 2017 IGSMA (Illinois Grade School Music Association) Solo & Ensemble Contest, hosted by District 96 at Woodlawn Middle School on Sat., Feb. 4, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m.  We urgently need volunteers to work shifts as room monitors, concession sales, and parking assistants.  Even 2 hours of your time would be much appreciated!  Your student does not need to participate in IGSMA for you to volunteer.  High school students are also encouraged to volunteer, and their service hours will be recognized.  To be directed to our Sign-Up Genius webpage to sign up for available jobs and shifts/times please CLICK HERE

PTO Executive Board Openings
This is one of those things that I haven’t received any parent feedback. I have been informed that the  Woodlawn PTO will have a couple of opening on our Executive Board next year.  If you are interested, please send an e-mail to me and I will forward your interest to our PTO President for next year, Missy Stevens.  Selections will happen before April, but send me your interest right away.

Girls Volleyball Fans

Our girls volleyball players are doing great.  Here is a picture of some of their classmates supporting the team:

From Mrs. Blair - P.E. Teacher

The girls have been working on respect and responsibility in the PE locker room.  We have had several conversations about the importance of being responsible for your own items and keeping your things locked up when you are not right with them, including during class.  Even after one of these conversations, I found many things still not locked up!  Check out all the shoes that were left unlocked or on the floor!  These photos were taken after school one day and demonstrate how easily things can go lost or missing when they are not taken care of.  I will continue to encourage proper lock usage to ensure the safety of all the girls' belongings.  Thank you for your help in this matter.
