Halloween (New)

Parade

Our Parade Route begins at 1:20pm outside of our southeast doors (near our gymnasium and the buffalo). The students will continue north on the sidewalk and then head west past the district office around the building, past the playground and end back at the southeast, Buffalo door. Please keep your fingers crossed that we have great weather! In case of inclement weather, we will have an indoor parade for teachers and students only.

Parties

  • Parties will begin at approximately 2:00pm and end at 2:45pm
  • Only PTO approved parent party volunteers may attend classroom parties. No siblings are able to attend.
  • If you are a volunteer, it is recommended that you have your driver's license scanned into our security system prior to party day so that your badge can be ready for you upon arrival.
  • All party treats must come from the Approved Snack List (see page 3) and brought in to be checked by the nurse. These need to be at school by 9:00am on October 31st. They can be brought in prior to that and will be kept safely in the office.

Halloween Costumes

As October is here, please help us with the following costume procedures and guidelines....

  • Students will change into their costumes after the lunch period.
  • Costumes must be appropriate for school.
  • Please no masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons
  • Please no cigars or cigarette items
  • Please no bare tummies
  • Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple

Can students go home for lunch to get into costumes?

  • Students are able to be picked up to go home during their own grade level lunch period. See below for specific times and details.
  • Students will meet their parent/grandparent/family member in the foyer of the school.
  • Please write a note stating that students will be going home for lunch. Students will give their “going home for lunch” note to the staff members who are supervising pick-up.
  • Students need to return to school by the end of their lunch/recess period.

Lunch/recess periods are as follows:

  • 1st grade at 10:55am - 11:35am
  • 2nd grade at 11:35am - 12:20pm

Thank you for helping us to keep our Halloween activities fun and safe!

Procedures for Dealing with Head Lice (Handbook Reminder)

When head lice are detected or notification is given that a student has head lice, the student will be immediately removed from school and parents will be provided with information on proper treatment. Students will not be readmitted to school until successful treatment has been completed and all evidence of nits has been removed from the individual’s hair. Parents should accompany children upon return to school and report immediately to the school nurse's office for verification that children are free from head lice. Notes from doctors indicating successful treatment has occurred will not be sufficient to permit students to return to school.

Waste Free Friday Lunch * Repeat Information

It has been estimated that on average a school-age child using a disposable lunch generates 67 pounds of waste per school year. That equates to 18,760 pounds of lunch waste for just one average-size elementary school. Students at Ivy Hall Elementary School are encouraged by the environmental club to participate in waste-free Friday lunches. A Waste-free Lunch: sandwiches and other main dishes, fresh fruits and, fresh vegetables, and treats in a reusable lunch container or containers. cloth napkins. stainless-steel forks and spoons. reusable drink containers.

KCSD96 Text Message Opt-In Process * Repeat Information

District 96 uses the SchoolMessenger system to communicate with our parent community by email and–in some instances–also by text message and/or phone call. If you would like to receive text messages from School District 96 when the subject and nature of the communication warrant our sending them (to advise you of a late-returning bus, for example), it’s necessary for you first to have sent a text message of Y or YES to this District 96 short code number: 67587. Or, if you prefer, use your mobile phone to scan the QR code in this School Messenger  FLYER  (English & Spanish) and send your Y or YES reply. To opt out of our text messages, simply reply STOP to any text message District 96 sends you. Please be advised that standard message and data rates for text messaging may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

How do I find what I need to know? * Repeat Information

You're in the right place. Start here. This will be delivered to your email box each Friday. Now that's service! A couple other things I highly recommend checking out:

  • PTO Blog: This is always linked in my blog post below. Here you'll learn about the FUN things our PTO brings to us to bond us together as a community. Don't miss out!

  • E-News: This is also delivered to your email on Fridays. Here you'll find out about district level news. You'll hear from Mrs. Julie Schmidt, our Superintendent, and acquire knowledge about parent learning opportunities so you'll have a greater understanding of our practices in District 96. E-News also includes important things, like the monthly lunch menu.

  • Virtual Backpack: Here you'll find all forms provided from the district and us!  PTO forms are accessible via the Membership Toolkit, which is linked in the Virtual Backpack.  We're a green school district.  We don't send excess paper home.  We deliver the information to your email box, and allow you to pick and choose what you want to learn more about.  All of our blogs will always tell you about something new so you know when and where to look.

  • Teacher websites and newsletters: Of course!  Don't forget to read those!  You'll find out all about your child's teacher's preferred communication style on curriculum night
