Willow Grove Principal's Message ~ May 24, 2024

picking up their children

Dear families,

We had such an exciting week around here! Thank you to Mr. Sutton and our field day volunteers for such an amazing day. It was easy to see that the kids had an absolute blast! I'm guessing on your end, parents, their little heads hit their pillows a bit faster than usual. That outdoor time really wears them out!

Kindergarten students enjoyed their first-grade field trip!

We also enjoyed the PTO Family Picnic! What a turnout! Thank you so much for attending. I look so forward to this event each year, seeing kids and families engaging and having so much fun together. I can also see all the friendships that have been made between kids and families, many meeting through school events, and remember those formative friendship days of my own when my now 16 and 19-year-old were just in kindergarten. Some of those connections have turned into friendships for a lifetime, and I hope you're all making a similar network of support. As we always hear, it takes a village!

As this is the last big event this year from our PTO, I want to thank our wonderful PTO for the constant support and for creating evenings that brought us together as a school community this year. You've set up classroom parties, Pizza Bingo, Book Fairs, and more. There have been countless hours for special dessert days, student assemblies, the yearbook, and appreciation staff treats and meals. You've provided classroom resources that have been enjoyed by all. All this and I'm only hitting a small selection of what you've done. You've been a dedicated and hard-working group and I know all of your efforts are appreciated by all! THANK YOU!

The closer we get to the end of this school year, the more we're starting to get a little weepy to say goodbye to our kindergarten students and families. We feel truly lucky to have been with your kids! We also are getting excited to see the students we've had in early childhood ready to pop on up to the "big kid" part of our school! What a year ahead we have! As we move into our final week of school, know that we are cherishing the time with your little ones. They are a very special group and we are so thankful for them and the year we've had together!

Best,

Jenny Smith, Principal

District 2023-2024 School Year Calendar

NEW *Lost and Found*

Our Lost and Found is full of clothes, water bottles, and other items. Please encourage your child to check the lost and found next week, which we will have out on full display in our learning center for all to see. Any items left behind on 5/31 will be donated.

REPEAT *Safe Driving Information*

Just a heads-up that I'm hearing from our Police Resource Officer that we have many people making U-Turns in heavy drop-off and pick-up traffic, which is unsafe and may result in receiving a citation. Please be safe out there (and I hope this saves you from a ticket)!

REPEAT *Kildeer Countryside School District 96 iPad Collection Notice for End of School Year 2023-24*

As the 2023-24 school year draws to a close, we need to inform all students and families about the iPad collection process. Unlike previous years, where students retained iPads over the summer, this year, we require their return to update and refresh our equipment for the 2024-25 academic year.

Collection Schedule:

  • 8th Grade: May 22
  • Kindergarten: May 29
  • 1st - 7th Grade: May 30

Items to be Returned:

  • iPad
  • iPad case
  • Charging cable
  • Charger
  • Logitech crayon

Damage and Missing Items Policy:

If any items are damaged or missing, please refer to the iPad handbook signed at registration. Remember:

  • Students have coverage for two incidents of damage to the iPad and two to accessories (charging cable, brick, case, pencil).
  • Beyond these incidents, costs for repair or replacement fall to the students and their families.
  • Intentional damages are not covered by the district.

Summer Programming Exception:

Students enrolled in summer programming will retain their iPads and accessories through the summer session, returning them by June 27, 2024. This ensures that all students participating in educational activities have the necessary resources.

We appreciate your cooperation in returning the iPads and accessories promptly and in good condition. This initiative is crucial for maintaining high-quality educational support for our students.

Thank you for your attention and continued support of Kildeer Countryside School District 96.

REPEAT *Blast Off to Summer Countdown*

REPEAT *Health Forms*

To comply with Illinois State guidelines, a physical examination – including current immunization records is required for all children entering an Illinois school for the first time, for children enrolling in kindergarten (even if they previously were enrolled in a District 96 Early Childhood program), and for

students entering Grade 6.

REMINDER - Health Forms: Provide required HEALTH FORMS as soon as possible. A physical and immunizations record needs to be on file in the nurse's office by October 15th or the student will be excluded from school. STATE OF ILLINOIS CERTIFICATE OF CHILD HEALTH EXAMINATION FORM. This form must be completed and signed by the pediatrician. Parents must also complete the fields for their child’s name and address, birth date, etc., at the top of the form on pages 1 and 2 in addition to the parent section on page 2, including a parent signature and date.

REPEAT *Parking and Pick-up/Drop-Off Information*

If you are a regular drop-off and/or pick-up parent here at Willow Grove you may have noticed some additional cones were added at the Checker and Essington intersection. The Buffalo Grove Police Department put cones there because when people are coming out onto Checker from Essignton, their view is obscured by cars parking too close to the intersection. BGPD explained that cars should park at least a car's length away from the intersection so those pulling out can have a clear view.

In addition, we have noticed that many who park on Checker walk through the bus traffic to drop off/pick up their child. Please cross our front circle drive where buses are located either by going behind the buses near the entrance, or at the crosswalk near the exit of the circle drive. This will ensure the safety of all.

Please note that all curbs along our drives and parking lots are for buses and emergency vehicles only. Owners parking their cars in non-designated parking spots have to be immediately located to move their cars so it does not impede on our bus traffic or potentially interfere with emergency vehicles.

Lastly, I continue to see U-turns in front of the school during high levels of traffic. Police do regularly monitor and give tickets when they see this. For the safety of all, please refrain from this.

We appreciate everyone's kindness towards one another, patience, and safe decision-making when dropping off and picking up their children. Thank you, so much.
