Willow Grove Principal's Message ~ May 17, 2024

picking up their children

Dear families,

The kindergarten music show, jamming out with its friendship theme, struck a chord with everyone, proving that when it comes to pals, we're all in perfect harmony. Seeing your amazing little performers, as well as so many smiling faces in the audience was incredibly special. Each year I look forward to this occasion as it showcases our kindergarten students as we get closer and closer to seeing them go off to first grade. It reminds me of how far they've come in the time they've been at Willow Grove. We are honored to be at the start of their educational path. Thank you for celebrating the moment with us! We will share the video we recorded of each performance in next week's message.

We hope to see you next week at our PTO Family Picnic event. Thank you to our wonderful PTO for all they've done to bring us together as one big Willow Grove family this year!

Best,

Jenny Smith, Principal

NEW *Field Day Reminder & Information*

We have Field Day on May 23rd. Children spend a portion of their day outside. It is advised that you apply sunscreen in the morning. Children can also bring sunscreen, but we cannot apply it. Please practice having your child apply their own sunscreen. It is also advised that you dress your child knowing they'll be in the sun if you are concerned about too much sun, such as wearing a long-sleeved, lightweight, light-colored shirt. Children can also wear hats and sunglasses. If the weather looks chilly, please also dress your children appropriately (layers are a great idea). Please have kids wear sneakers/gym shoes as they’ll be running a lot. No sandals, crocs, etc. We provide water for kids to grab outside.

Thank you to our parent volunteers. Volunteers may not bring additional children or adults. This is also not a day for parent observers unless you are a volunteer, notified by Mr. Sutton. Any adult viewing the activities who is not an approved volunteer will be asked to leave, as this is a distraction to both students and staff.

NEW *Safe Driving Information*

Just a heads-up that I'm hearing from our Police Resource Officer that we have many people making U-Turns in heavy drop-off and pick-up traffic, which is unsafe and may result in receiving a citation. Please be safe out there (and I hope this saves you from a ticket)!

REPEAT *Kildeer Countryside School District 96 iPad Collection Notice for End of School Year 2023-24*

As the 2023-24 school year draws to a close, we need to inform all students and families about the iPad collection process. Unlike previous years, where students retained iPads over the summer, this year, we require their return to update and refresh our equipment for the 2024-25 academic year.

Collection Schedule:

  • 8th Grade: May 22
  • Kindergarten: May 29
  • 1st - 7th Grade: May 30

Items to be Returned:

  • iPad
  • iPad case
  • Charging cable
  • Charger
  • Logitech crayon

Damage and Missing Items Policy:

If any items are damaged or missing, please refer to the iPad handbook signed at registration. Remember:

  • Students have coverage for two incidents of damage to the iPad and two to accessories (charging cable, brick, case, pencil).
  • Beyond these incidents, costs for repair or replacement fall to the students and their families.
  • Intentional damages are not covered by the district.

Summer Programming Exception:

Students enrolled in summer programming will retain their iPads and accessories through the summer session, returning them by June 27, 2024. This ensures that all students participating in educational activities have the necessary resources.

We appreciate your cooperation in returning the iPads and accessories promptly and in good condition. This initiative is crucial for maintaining high-quality educational support for our students.

Thank you for your attention and continued support of Kildeer Countryside School District 96.

REPEAT *Blast Off to Summer Countdown*

REPEAT *Health Forms*

To comply with Illinois State guidelines, a physical examination – including current immunization records is required for all children entering an Illinois school for the first time, for children enrolling in kindergarten (even if they previously were enrolled in a District 96 Early Childhood program), and for

students entering Grade 6.

REMINDER - Health Forms: Provide required HEALTH FORMS as soon as possible. A physical and immunizations record needs to be on file in the nurse's office by October 15th or the student will be excluded from school. STATE OF ILLINOIS CERTIFICATE OF CHILD HEALTH EXAMINATION FORM. This form must be completed and signed by the pediatrician. Parents must also complete the fields for their child’s name and address, birth date, etc., at the top of the form on pages 1 and 2 in addition to the parent section on page 2, including a parent signature and date.

Other health forms required include VISION, due before Oct. 15, 2024 (Kindergarten and new students) and DENTAL due before May 15, 2025 (Kindergarten, 2nd, and 6th graders).

You may email forms directly to our school nurse at [email protected].

REPEAT *Parking and Pick-up/Drop-Off Information*

If you are a regular drop-off and/or pick-up parent here at Willow Grove you may have noticed some additional cones were added at the Checker and Essington intersection. The Buffalo Grove Police Department put cones there because when people are coming out onto Checker from Essignton, their view is obscured by cars parking too close to the intersection. BGPD explained that cars should park at least a car's length away from the intersection so those pulling out can have a clear view.

In addition, we have noticed that many who park on Checker walk through the bus traffic to drop off/pick up their child. Please cross our front circle drive where buses are located either by going behind the buses near the entrance, or at the crosswalk near the exit of the circle drive. This will ensure the safety of all.

Please note that all curbs along our drives and parking lots are for buses and emergency vehicles only. Owners parking their cars in non-designated parking spots have to be immediately located to move their cars so it does not impede on our bus traffic or potentially interfere with emergency vehicles.

Lastly, I continue to see U-turns in front of the school during high levels of traffic. Police do regularly monitor and give tickets when they see this. For the safety of all, please refrain from this.

We appreciate everyone's kindness towards one another, patience, and safe decision-making when dropping off and picking up their children. Thank you, so much.
