Willow Grove Principal's Message ~ September 27, 2019

Willow Grove Principal's Message ~ September 27, 2019

What a week!

This week was packed with fun!  We had our Willow Walk, bringing our full student and staff community together to celebrate being a school family.  During this time we met “Buddy the Bear” and learned about our positive paw slips, which students earn at school to recognize their positive behavior.  They even learned that each month students earning paws will have a chance to be selected and be recognized over our announcements, along with receiving a pencil and getting their picture with Buddy!  There are lots of ways students will see Buddy this school year when their positive behavior choices are recognized. Thank you to our PTO for supplying the students with waters after our walk. Thank you to our volunteer parents who helped us keep our course on track and cheered us along the way.  We also had lots of spectator parents and we loved having you! And a huge thank you to Mrs. O’Gara and Ms. Degen for organizing this fun school event!

We also had our Scholastic Book Fair and Ice Cream Social this week, bringing our full school community together to include parents and families!  Thank you to our PTO for the very hard work organizing these events and to our families for joining us Thursday evening! We are so fortunate at Willow Grove to have such supportive families!  Thank you!

Looking for Volunteers

Are you creative?  Do you love browsing Pinterest?  Would you love to support your child’s school?  I am looking for some parent volunteers to help us with our school bulletin board.  We have monthly themes, beginning in October, that we would love your help with! Let me know if you are interested in volunteering for our school bulletin board by emailing me at [email protected].  We’ll see how many volunteers reach out and then I’ll let you know how we’ll organize it.  If there are only a couple people, you can team up to work throughout the year. If I have many, I can divide up the months and give people a month and "assignment".  If I have a very large number of volunteers, I’ll be pulling from a hat to select who will help. I look forward to hearing from you

The Monthly Payment Process for Willow Grove Full-Day Kindergarten

Did your family choose to make monthly payments for your child’s full-day kindergarten tuition?

The District 96 Business Office sent an email on Sept. 25 notifying of the next monthly payment due. Please note that your next payment will be due on October 1.

Throughout the school year, you should look for an email on or around the 25th day of each month advising you that your monthly payment of $203.68 is due by the first day of the next month.

Monthly payments are processed through the K12 Payment Center–the same site used for making student lunch payments. If you haven’t already set up your K12 Payment Center account, you can refer to directions that will be included  in the Sept. 25 email for assistance.

Please note that a $15 late fee will be added for any monthly tuition payment received after the 10th of the month in which the payment is due. If you have questions, please contact District 96 Business Services Coordinator [email protected]

Willow Grove Cultural Fair - Calling All Families!

Willow Grove Cultural Fair

On the evening of December 5th from 6-7:30 PM, we’ll be having a fun family event, showcasing the many cultures represented in our school community.  We hope to encourage our students to learn about other cultures, to celebrate what makes us all unique and to recognize cultural traits that we share. We cannot do this without your support and are looking for parents who would like to share artifacts and traditions from around the country and globe with our students and families.  Parents who are interested can share about holidays, traditions, clothing, games/toys, geographical location and landmarks, music, art, food, etc. Children or families may even choose to do a brief performance in our gym (dance, music, etc.) and we will have a rotating schedule for attendees to optionally visit. Things families choose to showcase are not limited to places outside of our own country.  Families can share about areas right here in the USA and what makes their family unique to help us all learn about one another. We are so excited for this event! We hope that you’ll consider sharing with our school community. We would all love to learn from you! If you would be interested in participating, please click here to complete this brief survey.  I’ll keep the survey open through October 11th.  THANK YOU!

Note: You may partner up with others!  You don’t have to do your booth alone. We will organize groups based on our volunteers and topics and individuals can feel free to work together, if you choose!

You can take a look at this video from a prior year's event if you would like to see what types of things families did.  We can't wait to make memories with you and your family this year!

More on this exciting event to come.  Mark your calendars for the evening of December 5th.  This will be fun for the whole family!

Halloween

It’s hard to believe it’s already time to talk about Halloween, but I’ve been seeing costumes pop up at the stores already!  Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays. I especially love watching your children in all of their excitement!   I like to provide details about Halloween early so you will know parameters about costumes as you are choosing the perfect one!  There is also an opportunity for you to view our parade I’d like to share with you.

10:00 AM - Parade - Parents may stand on the front sidewalk to view our parade!  If there is rain, we will need to cancel the outdoor parade. We cannot allow parents in the school to view the indoor parade, for obvious security reasons.  Let's cross our fingers for a beautiful fall day!

10:30-11:15 - Party (Kindergarten, Structured, and AM Blended) - Only approved PTO parent volunteers may enter the building for the classroom parties.  Our room parents put together a fun celebration in each classroom!

Blended Program - Blended will have 2 parties (one for AM and one for PM).   Again, only PTO approved volunteers may attend the party. Blended PM parents may bring their child in just for the parade if they'd like.  Parents must provide transportation to and from the school parade. Students must leave after the parade and come back when their typical program starts.  If you choose to bring your child to the parade please notify your child’s teacher so they know to expect your child. You will drop them off in the office and pick them up there after the parade.  Please bypass the line for scanning ID’s for the party and come right in to retrieve your child.

Costumes - As you are choosing or creating a costume for your child, please keep them school appropriate.  No blood or gore and no bare tummies in school. Children may not wear masks. Weapons, real or pretend, are NEVER allowed on school grounds.  I can't wait to see what you come up with!

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR PTO PARTY VOLUNTEERS:

  • Parents attending the parties may not bring additional family members, other children, etc.  We need everyone to abide by this and will have to ask you to leave if you come with other attendees.  For your sake and ours, please do not put us in this situation. We have many individuals entering our building for the party and cannot accommodate additional individuals.

  • Every PTO volunteer approved to come into our school MUST have their license or ID scanned through our security system to enter.  You have to bring this with you or you will not be able to enter. There is always a very long line at this first party, so please anticipate this.  We highly encourage PTO room party volunteers to swing by Willow sometime in the month of October before October 31st to have your license scanned, which will speed up the process.  The more people who come in early to be scanned, the shorter the line! You may also come in the day of the Halloween party BEFORE THE PARADE to have your license scanned.  We will clear out the office just before the parade starts, so please come early, as lines are long for this first party.

Willow Grove Cultural Fair

Saludos cordiales,

Jenny Smith
