Willow Grove Principal's Message ~ September 28, 2018

Picture Day Next Week!

Details at the end of the message (prior news).  Don't be like me and forget your child's picture day and then they are mad at you for a full year for the daily reminder they see on their lunch card/ID photo.  LOL!  This may just be older children.  Your little ones will let you off the hook! ;)

Willow Walk!

The Willow Walk was a huge success!  As it was our first one, we were cautious about how we structured this to make it appropriate and safe for our young children.  It felt just right!  We heard one of the 3-year olds at the end of the walk say, "my legs are tired!" which was so cute because it was a pretty brief walk, but it makes so much sense with their little legs. Our early childhood teachers were even prepared with wagons to make sure everyone was supported.

The kindergarten students enjoyed a warm-up activity we did in the gym, first.  We did yoga and dance videos to get our bodies ready and talked about the importance of celebrating our health and friendships.  Our early childhood classrooms did a classroom warm-up to not overwhelm them in the loud gymnasium with the kindy kids.  After the warm-up, we all exited the building classroom by classroom as a school and walked a large loop around Willow Grove School.  We had several parent volunteers on hand surrounding the perimeter of the walk and our police resource officer, Officer Ashley, making sure we were safe!  At the end of our walk we all sat on the blacktop area by our playground and enjoyed one another's company and some refreshing water, provided by our PTO.  Thank you to our PTO for the waters and support and Mrs. O'Gara for organizing the event.  Thank you to all of our wonderful parents who came out to volunteer and our parents who came out to be a spectator, too!  It was a beautiful day and our morning walk as a school family brought us even closer as a community.

Picture Day

What parent doesn't love getting their child's first school pictures?  They are just precious!  Looking back at my own kids' school pictures (and my own!) is always a fun time.  Even the not so great pictures we get back because our kids don't have us there cheering them on for the photos...you know the ones, with the crooked smile or shy, timid face...somehow those end up being our favorite!  Picture day is coming up on Wednesday, October 3, with retakes available on Tuesday, November 13th.  You received packets home from your child's teacher with ordering details.

Warm regards,

Jenny Smith, Principal
