Thank you, PTO!

Such a lovely gathering on Thursday at our Family Picnic. Thank you to our PTO for putting on such a special event. A perfect way to celebrate our year! I loved getting to mingle with so many of you and see your kids interact and run around with those they've created friendships with this year.

NWEA Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) REPORTS

The District sent a School Messenger Broadcast today between 2:30pm and 4:00pm with instructions for accessing your child's MAP student progress report online. The message will include links to more information about understanding student growth, RIT scores and general information about the MAP assessment.

Please contact Jeanne Spiller, Assistant of Teaching and Learning if you would like more information about your child's report. (847) 459-4260 ext. 8010 [email protected]

Indian Trails Library Visit

This week the Indian Trails Public Library visited Willow Grove and shared some stories with us and information about their summer reading program. Be sure to visit the library this summer and enjoy all the resources the library has to offer! Visit our district's Virtual Backpack to download a summer reading form.

Social Emotional Learning Monthly Skill

This month we are focusing on partings as we prepare to end our school year. We practice closing a conversation politely after working with our peers! Teachers model this for children and provide them with sentence prompts, such as, "Tell your partner, Thank you! I loved listening to your ideas!"  Of course, our parent helper went over and beyond and created a fabulous display to remind us of this important skill. Thank you, so much!  What a beautiful way to close our year!

What happens to your kindergartner's positive lunch account balance?

If there is money remaining in your Willow Grove student's lunch account after the last day of school this year, that positive balance will move with him or her to his next District 96 school, without any required action on your part.

This continues from year to year as long as your student is in District 96. Finally–when your student graduates as an 8th grader–the District will give you the option to receive a refund by check or to request to transfer the positive balance to another District 96 student in your family.

Blast Off to Summer Countdown!

Field Day, Wednesday, May 30th

We have Field Day on Wednesday, May 30th. Children spend a portion of their day outside. It is advised that you apply sunscreen in the morning. Children can also bring sunscreen, but we cannot apply it. Please practice having your child apply their own sunscreen. It is also advised that you dress your child knowing they'll be in the sun if you are concerned about too much sun, such as wearing a long sleeve, lightweight, light-colored shirt. Children can also wear hats and sunglasses. If the weather looks chilly, please also dress your children appropriately (layers is a great idea). Please have kids wear sneakers/gym shoes as they’ll be running a lot. No sandals, crocs, etc. No water bottles necessary. We provide water for the kids to grab outside.

Thank you to our parent volunteers. Volunteers may not bring additional children or adults. This is also not a day for parent observers unless you are a volunteer, notified by Mrs. O'Gara. Any adult viewing the activities who are not an approved volunteer will be asked to leave, as this is a distraction to both students and staff.

Summer Reading for Student Growth

Having students continue to read during the summer when school is not in session is extremely important to their academic growth and to prevent them from losing academic progress.

Because our goal is to have our students continue to read for pleasure, we offer grade-level-specific book suggestion lists of various genres to appeal to a variety of interests.

Also, grade levels have assigned specific activities as well as a student interest inventory to complete and return at the beginning of the school year.

Please CLICK HERE to find your student's parent letter (including required grade-level activity), book suggestions, and reader interest inventory, listed by 2018-2019 grade level.

Questions? Please contact the school office.
