Bears That Care

Students earn Bears That Care Paws for demonstrating our Bears That Care behaviors!  They get so excited to earn these special recognition paws.  Teachers proudly post them on their doors to show everyone how proud they are of their students.  Our Bears That Care behaviors are emphasized daily in our Bears That Care pledge that all students say with the morning announcements.  "Bears That Care show kindess, responsibility, and respect.  We are good friends!"  In addition, as I've shared in previous blogs, each month there is a weekly theme emphasizing a target social behavior we focus on as a full school.  The social skills for the full year are listed on the back of our paw slips, as seen below.

Halloween Details - REPEAT INFO

*REPEAT INFO - Halloween Candy for Heroes

Wondering what to do with all that candy being collected in a couple weeks?  Willow Grove does an annual candy donation drive!  The candy goes to Deployed Troops and First Responders.

9:45 AM - Parade - Parents may stand on the front sidewalk to view our parade!  If there is rain, we will need to cancel the outdoor parade.  We cannot allow parents in the school to view the indoor parade, for obvious security reasons.  Let's cross our fingers for a beautiful fall day!

10:15-11:00 - Party - Only approved PTO parent volunteers may enter the building for the classroom parties.  Our room parents put together a fun celebration in each classroom!  Please note: parents attending the parties may not bring additional family members, other children, etc.  We need everyone to abide by this and will have to ask you to leave if you come with other attendees.  Please do not put us all in this situation.  We have many individuals entering our building for the party and cannot accommodate additional individuals.

Blended Program - Blended will have 2 parties (one for AM and one for PM).  Details will come from teachers.  Blended p.m. parents may bring their child in just for the parade if they'd like, and the students' PM party will be at the end of their regular day.  Parents must provide transportation to and from the school parade if they are doing that.  Students must leave after the parade and come back when their typical program starts.

Costumes

As you are choosing or creating a costume for your child, please keep them school appropriate.  No blood or gore and no bare tummies in school.  Children may not wear masks.  Weapons, real or pretend, are NEVER allowed on school grounds.  I can't wait to see what you come up with!

Parade Update - NEW INFO

The weather is looking dry, but cold!  Be sure your child has a coat, as we will have our outdoor parade if it's cold.

Brrrrrrrr....It's Getting Cold!

Please remember to send your child to school daily with proper outerwear. Weather permitting, kindergarten students go outside for recess every day. In winter the temperature and wind chill and weather conditions will be monitored throughout the morning. The weather website and playground will be checked to determine whether conditions are appropriate for children’s outdoor recess. When the temperature or wind chill is below zero degrees, students will be kept inside for recess. We weigh options when the temperature or wind chill is between zero to ten degrees, to determine if we have indoor or outdoor recess, such as how damp it is outside. We do try to allow the children to go outside whenever possible, so please help them to come prepared. If there is snow on the ground, children must have a coat, snow pants, hat, mittens/gloves, and boots to play in the snow. If they aren't prepared with these items, there is a cleared blacktop area for kids to play on. Feel free to keep an extra set of these items at school. Thank you!

Parking & Driving Precautions

Please do not pull into our front drive circle.  It is for buses and emergency vehicles only.  You may park legally on the street (not on the crosswalk) or in our lots.  The police are monitoring and ticketing for parking/standing violations on our circle drive.  Checker Rd. is a very busy street.  The police have advised us they are monitoring and ticketing for U-Turns in front of our school, as this is very dangerous with the steady flow of traffic.
