Superintendent's Message, March 3, 2022

March is here, and and as we anxiously await spring, please take a few minutes to listen to or watch the Superintendent’s Update given during the March 1, 2022, Board of Education meeting describing updates shared with you this past weekend.  In addition, updated information on the lab used for our PCR screening is provided.

Update:  PCR Screening

We received notification that Ravinia Health has successfully expanded its very own in-house laboratory, Ravinia Clinical Laboratory (also known as RCL), to accommodate our weekly PCR screening. RCL is a High-Complexity CLIA certified lab. This expansion benefits KCSD 96 in several ways.

  • Ravinia Health would have 100 percent of the control over the testing process and will not have to rely on a third-party laboratory.
  • Ravinia Health’s new lab, RCL, uses cutting-edge technology that incorporates the use of robotics that will automate the test sample processing system, thus creating a faster turnaround time in posting our results.

This free testing service will remain the same, and no changes will be made to the consent forms: However, for documentation purposes, Ravinia Health will need you to do two things:

  1. Sign a new signature card (you will receive the signature card in your kit on Thursday) and…
  2. Provide your health insurance information on the same signature card.

A new signature card will be required for continued participation. The new signature only needs to be completed once. In addition, the card will also request the participant’s insurance information. Insurance information is required for all participants who have an active insurance plan. This information is required in order for RCL to maintain legal compliance.

As you know, all COVID-19 testing services are required to obtain insurance information (Walgreens, CVS, Pop-Up COVID testing sites, etc.) from their patients. The patient, however, does not retain any out-of pocket-costs. Reimbursement for COVID-19 testing is covered 100 percent by all insurance payers with no deductible, co-pays, coinsurance, or any other out-of-pocket expense to the patient.

Please return the signed card with your completed insurance information as well as your swab.  Please contact Mrs. Amy Gluck ([email protected]) with any questions.
