District 96 Families:
Happy Friday! I hope you’re looking forward to the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, when we can enjoy our families and remember those who lost their lives in service to our country.
As indicated in prior messages, I am sharing updated information regarding the 2021-2022 school year.
The expectation is that all District 96 students will attend school in-person in August, and District 96 will resume all normal operations. Circumstances in which an in-person learner will be allowed to attend virtually will be very limited. Typical attendance requirements and procedures will be fully reinstated.
Remote participation in a student’s assigned classroom will only be permitted when a student must isolate or quarantine in accordance with the Illinois Department of Public Health guidelines (IDPH decision tree) and that student does not qualify for vaccination. This means that remote attendance will only be allowed on a short-term basis for those younger than 12 years of age under the circumstances indicated below.
Students who must quarantine due to the most up-to-date IDPH guidelines may attend remotely with parental approval, but only if they are younger than 12 years of age and are not eligible to receive the Covid-19 vaccination. If a student is 12 years of age, is eligible for the vaccination but is unvaccinated, and must be quarantined, that student will not have the option to attend remotely. Under these circumstances, a student would revert to the traditional attendance policy and be considered absent. For qualifying cases, students may not have access to synchronous elective / specials courses.
An individual student may be eligible for homebound / hospital instruction. Once certified by a physician, a student would be entitled to 5 hours per week of instruction. All homebound / hospital inquiries should be directed to Mrs. Amy Gluck, Director of Student Services, at [email protected].
In summary, access to short-term remote learning with assigned content teachers will be made available under the following circumstances (IDPH decision tree).
- A student has been identified as a close contact required to quarantine and is younger than 12 years of age (not eligible for vaccination).
- A student is positive for Covid-19, is asymptomatic, and is not eligible for vaccination.
- A student has minor Covid-19 related symptoms, is required to quarantine and able to participate but ineligible for vaccination.
*These circumstances are subject to change as IDPH guidance is updated.
Remote learning will NOT be allowed under the following circumstances.
- Vacations
- Relocation outside of District 96 boundaries for a period of time for any reason
- Sporting events or other competitions that require travel
- A student with significant Covid-19 related or unrelated symptoms (fever and vomiting, for instance, necessitating a traditional sick day).
- A parent reporting a daily absence for any reason that prevents in-person attendance (traditional attendance policy)
- A student misses the bus or has other appointments (traditional attendance policy)
It is important to emphasize that all fully vaccinated students (currently 12 years of age and older) will not be required to quarantine if identified as a close contact, for instance. It is also possible that fully vaccinated students will follow more flexible mitigation measures when school reopens. When we receive additional guidance on these matters, we will share them with you.

Como se indicó en mensajes anteriores, estoy compartiendo información actualizada sobre el año escolar 2021-2022.
La expectativa es que todos los estudiantes del Distrito 96 asistirán a la escuela en persona en agosto, y el Distrito 96 reanudará todas las operaciones normales. Las circunstancias en las que se permitirá a un estudiante presencial asistir virtualmente serán muy limitadas. Los requisitos y procedimientos típicos de asistencia se restablecerán en su totalidad.

Un estudiante individual puede ser elegible para la enseñanza en el hogar / hospital. Una vez certificado por un médico, el estudiante tendría derecho a 5 horas semanales de enseñanza. El aprendizaje virtual NO será permitido en las siguientes circunstancias.
- Vacaciones
- Traslado fuera de los límites del Distrito 96 por un período de tiempo por cualquier razón
- Eventos deportivos u otras competencias que requieran viajar
- Un estudiante con síntomas significativos relacionados o no relacionados con Covid-19 (fiebre y vómito, por ejemplo, que requieran un día de enfermedad tradicional).
- Un padre que informa de una ausencia diaria por cualquier motivo que impide la asistencia en persona (política de asistencia tradicional)
