Superintendent's Message, 8.20.20

Dear District 96 Community:

Our 2020-21 school year opens with enhanced remote learning for most on Mon., Aug. 24, with a Half Day. We are ready.

Our administrators and faculty have been working full speed this summer preparing for the enhanced remote opening for the new year ahead. On weekdays and Saturdays throughout the summer, over 400 staff members participated in professional learning in the areas of social emotional learning and trauma and remote learning tools, platforms, and strategies to best engage and educate every child in every District 96 school. That learning continued in earnest this week! Our staff are eager and prepared.

We want to help our District 96 families feel the same way. We heard over 60 percent of you say in our spring surveys that you would benefit from instruction and support in accessing and using the learning apps that your students use.

Our technology innovation coaches have prepared 30-minute live sessions on three topics for you to access via Zoom links provided in THIS SCHEDULE.

As explained in Aug. 14 Principal Messages, these live Zoom sessions are offered this evening beginning at 6 p.m. and tomorrow, Aug. 21, beginning at 3 p.m. (These sessions will also be recorded for access later.)

I hope that you and your students will join these live Zoom sessions together this evening or tomorrow to learn together and get troubleshooting tips for using iPads, Zoom, Schoology, and SeeSaw.

Please join these live Zoom sessions and the collaborative effort–working with our technology innovation coaches as a learning community–to help get the new school year off to a solid start. We are here for you and we’re all in this together.

Thank you,
-Julie Schmidt, District 96 Superintendent of Schools
