KCSD96 is committed to maintaining its school grounds and facilities in a manner that ensures that its facilities remain in full compliance with all federal, state, regional and local environmental rules and regulations. KCSD96 is also committed to transparency and accuracy in these endeavors. To that end, I would like to highlight the following actions that KCSD96 has taken at the Country Meadows Elementary School and Woodlawn Middle School in furtherance of these efforts.
- In Fall 2021, JMS Environmental Associates performed an Indoor Air Quality Survey at the schools. The results of the survey demonstrated that all the indoor sampled locations were normal for an indoor location and generally lower than the sample results in the outdoor air.
- In Spring 2023, Ramboll (an international environmental consulting firm) was retained to perform another Indoor Air Quality Survey. As was the case with the JMS Indoor Air Quality Survey, the indoor sampled locations were again normal and generally lower than the sample results in the outdoor air. Ramboll specifically noted that (1) indoor environmental quality was very good and (2) mold growth was not a concern.
KCSD96 fully supports and endorses the findings and data presented in these two independent reports, which have undergone rigorous evaluation and analysis. The methodologies employed by both JMS and Ramboll are recognized by the American Industrial Hygiene Association and the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The surveys were performed by trained environmental professionals. Careful adherence to recognized methodologies carried out by trained environmental professionals is critical to ensure that the Indoor Air Quality Surveys accurately reflect conditions in our schools. Otherwise, there is a significant risk of generating unreliable data that does not accurately reflect the indoor air quality in our schools.
