Superintendent's Message, June 14, 2023

Thank you, Mr. Strezewski!

At Tuesday night’s Board of Education meeting, board members accepted ~ with sincere regret ~  the resignation of member James Strezewski. Appointed to the Board of Education in May 2012, Mr. Strezewski was then elected in April 2013.  In the decade since, he has served enthusiastically and wholeheartedly in every regard.  Increased responsibility and scheduling conflicts at his job have led Mr. Strezewski to resign from the board.         BOE Resignation James Strezewski

Mr. Strezewski has represented the Board as a Finance Committee member and chairman and led the district in receiving the highest rating of Financial Recognition from the state of Illinois every year during his term of office. He has been an enthusiastic advocate for parent involvement supporting two community focus group events addressing the District 96 Mission, Vision, and Values: the creation of the Guiding Coalition on Interculturalism and the Thought Exchange Partnership; and the attention to prudent fiscal management and capital/facilities management. He also supported expansion of the Willow Grove Kindergarten Center to a full-day program for early learners; implementation of a Dual Language program beginning in Kindergarten; installation of running tracks at both middle schools; a revised Middle School schedule; maintenance of student achievement in the 97th to 99th percentile in Illinois and moving from 10th to 6th among the benchmark school districts; and creation of the Exceptional Learners Collaborative (ELC).  As a parent of two District 96 alumni, he has been dedicated to supporting a high quality educational experience for all of our students, both academically and socially and emotionally.

Our Board of Education will appoint a member to fill the seat vacated by Mr. Strezewski for the remainder of his current term, which expires in April 2025.

Residents of Kildeer Countryside School District 96 interested in applying for the vacancy created by Mr. Strezewski’s resignation are requested to submit a letter of interest and an application ~ which will be available on the District website (https://www.kcsd96.org/boe/apply-for-current-board-vacancy-2023) on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, and will be due by 12:00 p.m on Friday, July 7, 2023 (drop off in-person to Chris Rosenberg, Secretary to the Board of Education, at District Business Office, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane in Buffalo Grove.  Please contact Mrs. Chris Rosenberg with any questions at [email protected] or at (847) 459-4260, x8013.

Best wishes,

~ Kathryn E. Sheridan, District 96 Superintendent of Schools
