REMINDER

Newcomer Coffee & Conversation

Reminder: Did you register for the Newcomer Coffee & Conversation on Tuesday, December 19?

The sign-up deadline is Wednesday, December 13:  RSVP at https://forms.gle/Kn5SkyzZFbHgtyCn7.

District 96’s Newcomer Coffee & Conversation is for parents and guardians of newly registered students; it provides an opportunity to ask questions and share information about the transition.

The Newcomer Coffee starts at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, at Ivy Hall Elementary School (Mat Room), 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.  This is an event only for parents and guardians.

It is an informal opportunity for these new parents and guardians to ask questions and share their thoughts ~ with other parents and staff ~ about their experiences in the district. These parents might be experiencing the District’s social customs and teaching practices for the first time, just as their students have, and can glean from the experiences of others.

New parents/guardians who missed the New Family Tours in August are encouraged to attend this conversation.  Those who did attend the tours are welcome to join this conversation to share how they are adjusting to the District 96 culture.

Coffee and other refreshments will be served.

IN OUR SCHOOLS

Cultural Appreciation: Dozens and dozens of families showed up to appreciate Ivy Hall’s rich culture during the school’s World Wide Wildcats Cultural Night.  Students shared a variety of performances, from dance and instrument playing to art and craft-making.

3-Dimensional Excitement:  This Prairie fourth-grade class erupts in applause as Exploration Lab teacher Mrs. Spivack tells them that day’s lesson is an introduction to 3D digital printing. Students hear how 3D printing is shaping the world, from creating prosthetics for humans and limbs and beaks for injured animals to an affordable housing community in Mexico. In the past, Prairie students have used 3D printers to create their own model cities.
