Congrats to Mrs. Kathryn Sheridan, D96’s Next School Superintendent

After an intensive Superintendent Search that began more than four months ago and involved hundreds throughout the community, the KCSD Board of Education has chosen a new chief.  The Board of Education chose Kathryn Sheridan, the district’s Director of Language and Early Literacy and a former middle school assistant principal and elementary school principal; she assumes the position on July 1, 2022.

Save the Date: Kindergarten Pre-Registration on January 13

Save the Date:  Willow Grove is preparing to welcome its incoming Kindergartners during a special, in-person Pre-Registration set for Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 13, parents/guardians can come to the school to pre-register their incoming Kindergartners for the 2022-23 school year.  This Kindergarten pre-registration is open to students who live within District boundaries and who will be 5 years old by Sept. 1.  (Parents may also register their incoming Kindergartner online; a link will be shared later.)

To this Pre-Registration, parents are asked to bring:

  • Proof of their identity
  • Proof of their child’s birth (birth certificate or passport)
  • Proof of District residency
  • Current utility bill

District staff will scan these documents and return the originals to the parents; photocopies will not be accepted.

Assistance will be available.  Incoming Kindergartners who are pre-registered on this date will receive a special Willow Grove Kindergarten T-shirt. (The T-shirts are not available after this pre-registration period.)

K-3rd Grade Registration Fees to Increase

Registration fees will increase by $50 for the next school year for K-3 grades, to cover the addition of a technology fee.  The Board of Education approved the increase at its meeting this past Tuesday night.

This new fee is being applied since these levels take home their 1:1 device on a nightly basis for curriculum use and will need to use them in the event the District goes remote due to inclimate weather or other factors.  Previously, these levels used class sets that did not leave District property.

Grades 4 through 8 have been assessed the technology fee since the inception of the 1:1 iPad program.

Per the student handbook, the annual technology fee paid as part of registration will pay for the initial iPad case, charging cable, power brick, pencil, apps, and self-insurance for the school-issued iPad for repair and replacement in the event of theft, loss, or accidental damage.

Neither Rain nor cold could stop the Food Trucks!

Neither this past Friday’s cold rain could wash out Ivy Hall PTO’s first Food Truck Frenzy, where food trucks from Brothers’ Ribs and Donuts weathered the elements to provide tasty food and treats to families.  (Pictures Courtesy: Lawrence Levine)

I Am Me, We Are Kildeer Art Show

Kildeer is planning for its fourth annual “I Am Me … We Are Kildeer” Family Celebration on January 13.  To help promote the event, Kildeer students created artwork celebrating the event.  This Friday, Kildeer staff will select the student artwork they think represents the theme: “Purple People.”  View student artwork.
