From Our Schools

There were a lot of big machines around the District this week, a lot of big Snow Plows from the Village of Buffalo Grove’s Public Works Department.

The Snow Plows visited District schools where students had won the honor of naming them.

On Monday morning, Sophia The Snow Plowmade her way to Willow Grove Kindergarten Center, while the Prairie Express powerered its way to Prairie Elementary School.  Earlier today, “Ice Breaker 3000” graced the playground at Ivy Hall Elementary School, affording students the chance to look it over during their lunch recess.

On Monday, the "Prairie Express" snow plow stopped by Prairie, where its student artists posed for pictures.

Ivy Hall's "Ice Breaker 3000" snow plow, with the class that gave it its name

Mrs. Cappelen’s Ivy Hall class submitted the winning name for this Buffalo Grove Village Snow Plow: This winter, be on the lookout for “Ice Breaker 3000.”  "The name 'Icebreaker 3000' came from the idea that snowplows break ice, and 3,000 is a big number, and snowplows are powerful," Mrs. Cappelen shared.

Twin Groves Spanish

The Spanish students at Twin Groves got to experience some Hispanic culture by learning about Día de los Muertos, an important Hispanic holiday that has been celebrated for many generations.  Students helped decorate the hallway by making beautiful colorful skulls and flowers.  The teachers dressed up and turned the hallway into a beautiful Día de los Muertos celebration.
