Welcome back!

Can you believe in less than two weeks our schools will be reopening for the 2021-22 school year?  The first day of school is Thursday, August 19 ~ which is a half-day.  What an exciting time this is for our students and families!

Be sure to check for school news from your Principal’s blog, which can be accessed from your school’s website.  To find your school’s website, go to the district’s website at www.kcsd96.org and click on the “Schools” tab on the top of the screen; pull down that menu tab to find your child’s school.

* Please note that the wearing of masks is mandatory at all times when in a school building, by Executive Order.  Thus, you must be wearing a mask when you enter any of our schools for the events listed below.

 

COMING UP

Friday, August 13 (ES, Grades 1-5)

Newcomer Welcome / Orientation (New Family Tour)

District 96’s Grades 1-5 elementary schools host their Newcomer Welcome/Orientation on Friday, August 13, at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m., at their respective schools (Country Meadows, Ivy Hall, Kildeer and Prairie).  Families can choose whether to attend the AM or the PM session.  This event is for families who are new to the district.

As most families are new to the District's Early Learning Center, Willow Grove, those families are encouraged to tour the school while at the Meet The Teacher event (on August 17), where there will be many staff available to help.

Newcomer Welcome / Orientation  (New Family Tour)

Twin Groves Middle School and Woodlawn Middle School host their Newcomer Welcome/Orientation ~ also with a brief, New Family presentation, tour and Q&A ~ at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 17, before Locker Set-Up. This event is for families who are new to the district.

Meet The Teacher

8:30 to 10 a.m.

Meet the Teacher is an in-person, fully-masked event.  The times have been split by alphabet in order to reduce the number of people in a classroom for each session.

Elementary Grades 1 - 5

  • 8:30 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. ~ Last Names A - L
  • 9:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. ~ Last Names M - Z

Willow Grove Early Learning Center

  • 10:00 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. ~ Last Names A - L
  • 10:30 A.M. - 11:00 A.M. ~ Last Names M - Z

 

Tuesday. August 17

Locker Set-Up Day

4:30 to 6 p.m.

Twin Groves Middle School and Woodlawn Middle School host their “Locker Set-Up Day” from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, August 17.  The wearing of masks is required for all who enter the school building.

 

SCHOOL BEGINS

August 19

The first day of the 2021-22 school year is Thursday, August 19.  This is a half-day, with dismissal at 11:45 a.m. (for grades 1-5) and 11:10 a.m. (for grades 6-8).  Only Blended AM students attend (8:30 to 11:00 a.m.); Full Day and Half-Day Kindergarten also dismiss at 11:45 a.m.

 

CURRICULUM NIGHTS

*A virtual option will be offered for curriculum night and more information will be provided in the near future through your school’s Principal Message.

Curriculum Nights:

August 23:  Willow Grove (6:30 p.m.)

August 24:  Twin Groves and Woodlawn Middle School, 6th grade (7-8 p.m.)

August 25:  Country Meadows, Ivy Hall, Kildeer and Prairie Elementary School

  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. for Grades 1 and 2
  • 7:15-8:15 p.m. for Grades 3-5

September 2:   Twin Groves and Woodlawn Middle School, 7/8th grade (7 p.m.)

 

SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION

Parents and guardians: If you requested or signed up for bus transportation, you can expect to receive emails about routes and pick-up/drop-off times coming around Thursday, August 12.  If you have questions about your child's transportation, please email: [email protected]

Please note; The District’s transportation provider is experiencing a driver shortage, which means that riders and families may experience longer bus routes and ridership at capacity.

 

FREE MEALS FOR ALL

For this school year, Kildeer Countryside School District 96 will be offering meals free to all students.  Vegetarian meals are part of the offerings.  Stay tuned for more details.
 

iPADS FOR NEW STUDENTS

Students who are new to District 96 can expect to receive their new iPads on the first day of school.

(Parents of Returning Students: If your student did not have his or her iPad exchanged over the summer, please have him/her bring the old iPad and peripherals to school so that the Tech Department can exchange the items when school starts.)

 

STEVENSON’S FOCUS ON WELLNESS

District 96 families and students are invited to participate in Stevenson High School’s Wellness Week, running August. 23 to 27. The event culminates on Saturday, August 28, with a StreetFest, featuring fireworks, live stage performances, interactive games and food trucks.
