IN THE KCSD96 SPOTLIGHT:
Congratulations to Kildeer Countryside School District 96 student Hazel Kim, who competed in the Midwest Young Artists 2020 Walgreens National Concerto Competition held virtually this year. In the Junior Division (students in grade 8 and younger), Hazel won the Voice category. She has been invited to perform in May at the Winners’ Recital at Bennett-Gordon Hall at Ravinia in Highland Park.

Hazel is an 8th grader at Twin Groves Middle School.  

PARENTING IN PLACE MASTERCLASS SERIES BEGINS FEB. 17 – Only a few openings remain
Act quickly–the Parenting in Place Masterclass Series, beginning Wed., Feb. 17 at 7 PM, is almost full. School District 96 is providing an opportunity for District 96 parents to register for an 8-week free virtual masterclass series presented by parenting experts, therapists, authors, and educators. The masterclasses will be presented in real time, so attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and communicate through chat.

2021–22 REGISTRATION EMAILS FOR ALL RETURNING AND PREREGISTERED STUDENTS
In March, District 96 parents/guardians of returning and preregistered new students will receive registration email(s) for the 2021–22 school year. Each registration email (one per D96 student) will include a link and a unique “snapcode” needed for access to register your returning student for the upcoming school year. More details will follow in E-NEWS 96 and Principals Messages in late February.

5ESSENTIALS SURVEY–SHARE YOUR THOUGHTS ABOUT YOUR CHILD’S SCHOOL
Share your thoughts about how your child’s school is doing on the 5Essentials for school success. On behalf of the Illinois State Board of Education, the Illinois 5Essentials Survey will be administered online by UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago. District 96 will participate in the statewide 2020–21 5Essentials Survey to meet state legislation and the Board’s mandate. District 96 parents may voluntarily participate to complete the survey. Please select the Parent Survey and begin.

Beginning in February and through Apr. 2, Illinois students and teachers will complete their surveys to help identify strengths and weaknesses in their school’s learning environment. In District 96, students in grades 4–8 will complete their surveys on Mar. 19. 

This survey is designed to help school and district leaders better understand the parent/school relationship. All responses are anonymous. Parents are asked to complete a survey for each student attending a Kildeer Countryside District 96 school. The survey will be open through Apr. 2, 2021. Questions? DUAL LANGUAGE PARENT NIGHT FOR 2021–22 KINDERGARTEN PARENTS
District 96 Director of Language and Early Literacy Kathryn Sheridan will present a live virtual program for parents interested in the Spanish/English Dual Language opportunity for their incoming 2021–22 kindergartners. REGISTER HERE to receive the link to attend the live virtual informational program, to be presented Wed., Mar. 3, at 6:30 PM.

TEENS & SCREENS: THE IMPACT OF POPULAR TVFeb. 24, 7–8 PM (virtual)
Psychologist /Author Dr. Aaron Weiner will discuss how popular trending shows (e.g., The Queen’s Gambit, Stranger Things, and Euphoria) might impact your child’s choices. Register for the virtual program. This program is sponsored by Stand Strong, a community-based coalition dedicated to keeping youth drug- and alcohol-free.

COMING SOON: INFO ON BUYING A 2021–22 SCHOOL SUPPLY KIT
School Supply Kits will be available to buy from the District 96 Parent Teacher Organizations (PTOs) for the 2021–22 school year. Kits will be delivered directly to homes before the new school year begins. Watch E-NEWS and PTO Blogs in the weeks ahead for more information.
