RECEIVING TEXT MESSAGES FROM KCSD96  Opt-In Process for New Families
District 96 uses the School Messenger system to communicate with our parent community by email and–in some instances–also by text message and/or phone call.

If you would like to receive text messages from School District 96 when the subject and nature of the communication warrant our sending them (to advise you of a late-returning bus, for example), it’s necessary for you first to have sent a text message of Y or YES to this District 96 short code number: 67587. Or, if you prefer, use your mobile phone to scan the QR code in this School Messenger FLYER (English & Spanish) and send your Y or YES reply.

To opt out of our text messages, simply reply STOP to any text message District 96 sends you.

Note: If your student is a returning District 96 student and you opted in previously to receive text messages, it is not necessary to opt in again.

Please be advised that standard message and data rates for text messaging may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.

PLEASE KEEP US POSTED
If your child will be absent or arriving late to school, be sure to call the school office before or within the first hour of regular attendance time and inform the staff. If the office is not open, leave a voice mail message. Please speak slowly and clearly and include your student’s first and last name, homeroom teacher, and your follow-up phone number, if needed. SCHOOL CONTACT INFO

From the District 96 Parent/Student Handbook:
Please do not keep your child at home for reasons such as oversleeping, missing the bus, etc. It’s better for your student to be late to school, or present for a portion of the day, than not to attend at all. School Code requires that all school districts report individual student absences 10 percent or higher to the Illinois State Board of Education or the Regional Board of Trustees–regardless if the absence is excused or unexcused. A typical school year has 175 days of attendance; therefore, students with more than 17 days of absence are reported to the state.
