BECOME A CULTURAL INFORMANT  - This Mon., Jan. 9!
The ability to communicate and work effectively across cultures is a life skill our students will need in their 21st-century global workplace. As educators and parents preparing children to succeed, developing cultural competency–the ability to acknowledge and navigate differences in individuals’ world views effectively and with sensitivity–is increasingly important.

We can do this together.
All interested District 96 parents are invited to join us Mon., Jan. 9, 2017, at 7 p.m. in the Twin Groves Middle School Learning Center, 2600 Buffalo Grove Rd., BG, for important work: Become a cultural informant, helping to plan and incorporate cultural relevance into District 96 programs and practices. Listen, learn, and participate in leader-led activities with our diverse and representative group of stakeholders.

• Call for Volunteers
District 96 is hosting the 2017 IGSMA (Illinois Grade School Music Association) Solo & Ensemble Contest, bringing hundreds of band, orchestra, and choral students from middle and elementary schools across Lake County to perform a musical piece for a judge. Many D96 students will be performing at this event Sat., Feb. 4, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., at Woodlawn Middle School, 6362 Gilmer Rd., Long Grove.

We are still in need of volunteers to work shifts as room monitors, parking assistants, contest office, concession sales, and event set-up and take-down, as well as cooks for a potluck luncheon for contest judges. Even 2 hours of your time will be much appreciated! Your student does not need to participate in IGSMA for you to volunteer. High school students are also encouraged to volunteer, and their service hours will be recognized. If you are interested–but unsure of your schedule for that day–please enter your name, e-mail address, and job preference in the General Volunteer Sign Up slot on our Sign-Up Genius webpage. You will be contacted closer to the date asking if you are able to fill any remaining slots available. Click on the link to be directed to our Sign-Up Genius webpage to sign up for all the specific jobs and shifts/times you can work.
