Excellence Recognition in Health Education

Twin Groves Health Education Teacher Ben Leven and the Twin Groves Middle School health program have been recognized for a third time with a Blue Ribbon Award for excellence in Health Education.

This award, presented by the Illinois Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (IAHPERD), finds the standards-based curriculum is current and relevant to students' needs and offers a variety of assessments and differentiated learning opportunities to help all students feel successful. Instruction and pedagogy reflect best practice. Through classroom activities and projects, communication and decision-making skills are developed and students understand the influence of family, culture, peers, and technology on health behaviors.

The IAHPERD recognition acknowledges Mr. Leven's continued professional development and application of innovative teaching strategies to engage all students, such as mock trials and staged "accidents" requiring assessment and "treatment."  This classroom instruction was discussed in a Success Story feature ARTICLE in SHAPE America 2018, a journal of the Sociey of Health and Physical Educators.
