RE: Action Needed for Summer 2021 iPad Exchange

During the summer, the District 96 Technology Department will exchange a District student’s old iPad, charging cable, charging brick, and iPad case for new equipment.

In order for your student to begin the 2021–22 school year with a fully equipped and working iPad, you will need to schedule a time to exchange your student’s current equipment for new equipment.

iPad exchange appointments will be available Mondays–Thursdays, June 14 through July 29. (No appointments July 5) A parent/guardian must bring a photo ID to the exchange appointment for verification of 2021–22 completed registration and parent/guardian status.

It is extremely important that you schedule a time to make this exchange. After July 5, 2021, all old iPads will be deactivated and will no longer function.

Parents/Guardians were emailed instructions on May 25 to schedule a time to make the exchange of the old iPad, charging cable, charging brick, and case for new items. (Note: Unless students are graduating from Grade 8 or are not returning to School District 96, they should keep their Logitech Crayons.)

All tech device exchanges will occur at Woodlawn Middle School ONLY, at 6362 Gilmer Rd., Long Grove.  You will need to park and enter Woodlawn Middle School to exchange the tech devices. There will be signs to direct you to the appropriate lot and door.  SEE MAP

Please note that new tech equipment will be provided ONLY IF a student’s old District 96 iPad, iPad case, charging cable, and charging brick are received in exchange.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: My student lost/broke some of the equipment that you are collecting. What do I do? Will I be charged for the lost/broken equipment?
A: For all broken/lost devices or peripherals, we ask that you reference the D96 iPad Damage Policy document. Charges/fees apply only if your student has exceeded the number of incidents per grouping as stated in the policy.

Q: I will be travelling during the appointment window. Can my child bring old equipment and get new equipment on the first day of school?
A: We strongly encourage families to sign up for a time slot during the summer. For families who are not able to exchange their student's equipment before Aug. 1, we will exchange their equipment from their student's 2021–22 school. NOTE: Your student’s device will be remotely deactivated after July 5 and will not function into the 2021–22 school year.

Q: Will I need a separate appointment for each of my D96 students, or can I exchange for all at one appointment?
A: No need for separate appointments. Families with multiple students can schedule one appointment to exchange all equipment for each of their students.

Q: Will the new equipment my student(s) receive be activated for use during the summer before the school year begins?
A: Parents/Guardians will receive written instructions explaining how to enroll their student’s new device. The only requirement for this enrollment is wireless network access in your home or public WIFI area. Once enrolled, the device will be ready to use throughout the summer and into the 2021–22 school year.

Q: I haven’t completed registration yet for the 2021–22 school year. May I perform the exchange for new technology equipment before registering?
A: New equipment will not be released to students who have not fully enrolled for the 2021–22 school year. If you have not enrolled for the 2021-22 school year, please complete and submit registration before scheduling a time to exchange your student’s equipment. If you will not be enrolling your student(s) in District 96 for the 2021–22 school year, please plan to turn in your student’s equipment at Woodlawn Middle School, 6362 Gilmer Rd., Long Grove, no later than Fri., July 30.  Hours for return are Monday–Thursday, 8 AM – 4 PM.
