Kildeer Principal's Message- May 1st

majestic sunset

Dear Kildeer Families,

How is it May already? We've been home now for about 6 weeks if I'm counting correctly. Over the past several weeks, it's been a roller coaster. I'm pretty sure each and every person reading this blog can relate.

However, I've been working really hard to stop and celebrate the beauty around me, too. For example, my photo this week was the sunset last Saturday night. We celebrated my son's birthday with the new Trolls movie when, all of a sudden, our house started to glow. We paused, sat on our front stoop, and took in the majestic view.

There is also beauty in the "acts of kindness" around us. A shout-out to Kannon for picking up trash on earth day. A shout-out to Landon for sending handwritten cards to medical workers. A shout-out to our student council for the beauty you bring into our morning announcements. I could go on, and on.....

There is beauty in reading lovely words for teachers. I've sent over 100 emails over the past week just to celebrate the work being done by this staff. Your words of encouragement go a longer way than you will ever realize.

You see, we are all experiencing something different right now. It's day by day and there are ups and downs. Some feel completely overwhelmed while others might feel at peace. Some students are able to complete work independently while others might need a parent sitting side by side.  Some might be holding a baby on a hip while taking a zoom call while others might be working on the frontlines. From the wise words of Ellen Gartenberg at Woodlawn, "However you are feeling right now, you are right." A simple thought, yet profound.

So Kildeer parents, you are enough. You are doing great things for your kids. When we come out of this, you will have weathered the storm. We are all a part of history right now, so I challenge you to find the beauty in today, right now.

 Staff Appreciation

Next week is Staff Appreciation Week!  Our PTO is committed to making sure this week still happens for staff, and we are so appreciative of their willingness to go the extra mile.  With that being said, we also know that there is nothing more special than receiving a note of appreciation.  Given how hard our staff is working during these times, please feel free to send a “thank you” to those that work with your child.  If you need help with an email address, check the staff directory.

Making and Keeping Stay-At-Home Memories

School Resource Officers Ashley Krozel and Mike Martin from the Village of Buffalo Grove Police Department have provided a COVID-19 TIME CAPSULE–a fun activity to help students and their parents capture and preserve the details of staying safe at home together during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic.

Slides

Please know that teachers have included audio and video clips to support student learning in slideshows.  This was included to provide a level of independence we hope supports families juggling so much at home.  This is just a friendly “ask” to remind your students to listen/watch the audio and video clips, as they do provide a significant amount of content.  We appreciate your continued support!

Medications left at school

It has been the nursing team's pleasure to care for your child’s health needs this school year. In keeping with our School Board Policy, any unused medication remaining at the end of the school year must be picked up by parents. This ensures the safety and well being of all children.

The medications from each building have been picked up and brought to the ELC located at the following address:

990 Corporate Woods Parkway

Vernon Hills, Illinois 60061

You may pick the medication(s) up on the following days:

  • Wednesday, May 6 (8-3:30)
  • Thursday May 7 (8-3:30)
  • Friday May 8 (8-3:30)

If your child will require medication to be kept at school next year, please download the forms from the school website and take the forms to your physician over the summer for completion.

Please note that there is a section on the form for the parent and physician to complete and sign.

Returning this information, on or before the first day of school, will help ensure the safety of your child at school. The medication must be labeled and in its original container and will not be accepted without the completed physician’s order.

Please place the medication in a gallon size zip-lock baggie, labeled with your student’s name, grade and homeroom teacher. Medication must be transported to the school by the parents.

Thank you for your assistance,

Beth Finato, BSN, RN, PEL-CSN, District Nurse

Thoughts with the DiFranco Family

As you may be aware, earlier this month Officer Marco DiFranco, a Kildeer parent and first responder, passed away from COVID-19. He was the first officer on the front lines in Chicago to lose his life. During this difficult time, our thoughts are with his children, Olivia and Peter, and his wife, Maria. Student Material Pick-Up

We know that with the buildings being closed for the remainder of the school year, students have materials and possessions that need to be picked up.  Please know that district administrators are working to develop a plan and protocol for this to take place, and we will communicate that plan as soon as we have information to share with you.  We are working diligently to ensure the plan we develop adheres to health and safety guidelines to protect our school community.
