Kildeer Principal's Message- March 15th

Kildeer Principal's Message- March 15th

Kildeer Families,

The celebrations and smiles continue to roll in from our recent student-led conferences as well as all the great things going on at Kildeer. Over the past week, I've been very observant of evidence around our building that demonstrates student success and a warm, welcoming, and safe atmosphere.

Do you want to know what I saw and heard about? Here are a few things below:

  • A teacher leaning down to talk to a student at eye-level when they were upset about something that happened at recess.
  • A little guy that spilled his pencil box and not one, not two, but ten students came to the rescue to help him clean it up.
  • Photographs and writing pieces hung up in the hallway sharing "The best part about me is..."
  • Mrs. Fineman reading with students in the office after school hours.
  • Students in the fifth-grade hallway chatting about the duet they will perform at an upcoming show this spring.
  • Parents rotating in and out of the doors to volunteer through cougar press, special lunch, reading to classes, etc.
  • A mob of first graders hugging the principal at the picnic with smiles on their faces.
  • A teacher with a small group of students huddled around the table to reteach a tricky math concept.
  • A group of dedicated students coming together to brainstorm ideas for a kindness challenge coming up.
  • Teachers standing outside the doorways to give high-fives first thing in the morning.
  • The superintendent visiting classrooms and recognizing a third-grader that she knew when she had "adopted" the classroom as first graders.
  • Emails from many parents expressing gratitude for reaching out and communicating.

The list goes on and on. We are so grateful for this wonderful community and the opportunity to work with your children on a daily basis.

Internet Safety Concern

By now you are likely aware of an Internet safety concern that has surfaced called Momo.

The “Momo Challenge/Game” begins with the recipient receiving a notification or watching a video which includes an image of a scary face/statue. The recipient is urged to perform potentially dangerous acts through intimidation techniques.

Please see a flyer below put out by the National Online Safety Institute regarding this challenge.

This is a good reminder that all of us need to remember the importance of internet safety. No filter is 100% effective. Today we are addressing Momo, however tomorrow it may be something else. Being responsible and diligent regarding best practices around the use of technology is a practice that all can benefit from. Common Sense Media is a great resource for any human being that uses the internet. There is a link to Common Sense Media also included below.

He had the opportunity to tour part of the building, visit some classrooms and speak with students, as well as hear from the teacher perspective. It was a delight to have him here and experience our Kildeer family in person!

Have a great weekend ahead!
