Kildeer Principal's Message- January 25th

Kildeer Principal's Message- January 25th

Kildeer Families,

What a great week! It may be chilly outside but students have had a great time playing outside in the snow. Probably one of the best parts of my job is to the see the joy of our students, especially when snowflakes are involved!

Additionally, I had the pleasure of attending the orchestra concert earlier this week. Once again, I felt so proud of our students for their commitment to music. Learning an instrument and reading music is a lot like learning a language. Our fourth graders even made their big debut by featuring their bows for the first time ever. Congratulations to Mrs. Ok and the orchestra students for a job well done!

Notice of 5Essentials Student Survey Administration

I want to inform you about a student survey for 4th–8th graders that will be administered at your child’s school.

The Illinois 5Essentials Survey is based on 20 years of research at the University of Chicago. The survey asks students about their experiences in school, giving school leaders critical student input to help develop school improvement plans.

Students will be required to log in using their student ID and birth date in order to complete the survey. Students’ identities will be completely confidential. Teachers or administrators will never see individual responses to survey questions. Instead, they will receive only aggregated information, such as the total percentage of students who agree homework assignments help them learn the course material, for example.

Please be aware that under the Protection of Pupil Rights Act. 20 U.S.C. Section 1232(c) (1) (A), you have the right to review a copy of the questions your student(s) are asked. Find survey questions on the Illinois 5Essentials website  (https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois).

If you do not want your son or daughter to participate, please contact me at [email protected]

Create a Sticker for Our Teachers!

On March 1st teachers from District 96, 102, 103 and 125 will meet at Stevenson High School to participate in a workshop.  The workshop will focus on the diversity within our community and how educators can create an equitable learning environment for all students.  Our aspirational goal is to create a community in which all students feel they belong as their authentic selves. We are reaching out to students to help design a sticker with a slogan that will unite all of us around a common theme of respect and inclusion of all.

If you are interested in submitting a design and slogan for consideration, please email a document as a .pdf with your design to [email protected] or turn in a paper copy to the main office in your school.  With your submission, please include your full name, grade and school you attend.  Your slogan and design may contain images, words or a combination of both and should not be bigger than 6 x 3 inches.  Your submission must be an original creation.

Designs need to be turned in on or before Friday, February 8th.  If your design is selected you will be contacted by email by February 15th.

For Parents: Sexual Assault and Abuse Awareness/Prevention Curriculum Preview Opportunity
An Illinois law known as Erin’s Law requires schools to implement an age-appropriate sexual assault and abuse awareness/prevention curriculum for Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96 researched and observed best practices and programs for delivering this instruction, selecting Victor Pacini to present Be Seen & Heard ©.

The focus of this developmentally appropriate and interactive program is to teach children skills to keep them safe from danger or abuse. Concepts discussed will include distinguishing safe from unsafe touches, safety rules at home and school, saying NO, safe/unsafe secrets, and telling a trusted adult, as well as reinforcing that an adult’s touching him or her is not the child’s fault.

Parents who would like to preview the information he will present to KCSD96 elementary students may attend a program with Mr. Pacini at 5:30 p.m. on Thurs., Feb. 7, in the Mat Room at Ivy Hall School, 1072 Ivy Hall Lane, Buffalo Grove.

The age-appropriate presentation to Kildeer students will be during the school day on Thurs., Feb. 14.

If you prefer that your child does not attend this prevention education session, please submit your written request - or your questions - to me at [email protected].

When students ask me what I do all day with my job, I chuckle. It's hard to put into words and this was one of those weeks that sums it up. I visit classrooms, I attend meetings, I investigate bus situations, I visit the hallways with students, I conduct formal observations, I clarify concerns, I teach others about our professional learning community, I tell jokes with kids, I learn new math concepts that I wasn't taught in elementary school, I send appreciation emails to staff, I pass out bells at orchestra concerts, etc. It's a balancing act, but I cannot imagine a job more rewarding than this one!

As you know, one of my important roles is partnering with our community and parents. What I value about these opportunities are the perspectives!  In life, I find it to be essential to put ourselves in others' shoes and step outside of our own view. When I have the opportunity to speak with a parent, it helps me to understand perception and I find it to be meaningful feedback towards continually enhancing Kildeer Elementary School.

Thank you Kildeer families! Enjoy the weekend ahead.

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Vail Kieser

Principal
