Kildeer Principal's Message- October 5th

Kildeer Principal's Message- October 5th

Hello Kildeer Families!

We had such a fun week with the fall book fair and ice cream social. It's always a good time to see our students really excited about looking at new books, creating a wishlist, and bringing home some great new reads! This is one of my favorite times of year because I bring my own family. My husband convinced me to let our three-year-old have her own scoop of ice cream. When in Rome, right? That was a fun bedtime!

I want to thank a LOT of people for making that night happen. First of all, thank you to our fabulous PTO. I am in awe by the amount of hours you put into the planning, coordinating, and implementing of these events. Please know your efforts are appreciated greatly. Also, did you see some helpers dishing out some toppings? Thanks to Mrs. Norman and the student council members for being such great helpers that night. Lastly, thank YOU for your participation through purchasing books or attending the family night. I am proud of this community!

Stores are full of Halloween costumes, and I'm sure that your child is excitedly looking forward to getting a Halloween costume together for this year's festivities.  When selecting or creating a costume with your child to wear at school, please be sure that the following expectations are followed:

-Must be appropriate for school
-No masks, blood, super scary stuff, general iciness, or weapons
-No cigars or cigarette items
-No bare tummies
-Please keep hair coloring and make-up simple
**If you are unsure about a costume or costume prop, please contact your child's classroom teacher.  Students whose costumes do not meet these expectations will be asked to adjust their costume for the school festivities.**

On October 31st, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a parade outdoors (dependent upon the weather) as well as the classroom party. Please see some reminders below:
  • The parade may be viewed by families outdoors. If it rains, it will be indoors for students and staff only.
  • The Halloween party is by invitation only from the PTO. At this point, you should know if you are a volunteer (if so, please no extra siblings)!

Thank you for your help with this and we look forward to the creativity from our students this day!

Technology on the Bus

We've had a lot of conversations this week regarding the bus and safety for all students. Currently, only 4th and 5th graders take iPads home from school. I also recognize many students bring personal devices. Please take your child about using technology appropriately while on the bus. Also, please remind your child that the school iPad is for school use. Any questions? Please reach out to your child's teacher or school principal!

A WORD ABOUT PARCC ASSESSMENT RESULTS:
Today your student is bringing home his or her PARCC data for the PARCC assessment administered in April 2018. Please check your student’s backpack for these assessment results.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is the assessment and accountability measure used for students enrolled in Illinois public schools. Students in Grades 3–8 take this assessment in the academic areas of English language arts and mathematics.

PARCC results show whether your student met grade-level expectations and is on track for the next grade level. Please note that PARCC is only one measure of how your student is performing academically.

The Illinois Science Assessment (ISA) results for current sixth grade students will also be included.  The ISA is administered to students enrolled in grade 5 and grade 8 at their respective grade level.

The ISA measures the Illinois Learning Standards in Science, incorporating the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that replaced the previous science standards adopted in 1997. The NGSS are the most comprehensive science standards that Illinois has ever had. They are more rigorous and detailed as they integrate the content of science with the practices of science.

For more information and support in understanding your student’s PARCC assessment results, please refer to the following:
• DISTRICT 96 RESOURCES FOR PARENTS
• ILLINOIS STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION  PARCC PLACE

• ILLINOIS SCIENCE ASSESSMENT
Also, please feel free to direct your questions about your student’s results to the principal of the District 96 school your student currently attends or to Jeanne Spiller, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning- 847 459-4260 ext 8010- [email protected].
