Kildeer Principal's Message- September 7th

Kildeer Principal's Message- September 7th

Hello Kildeer Families!

We are one, short week away from our first ever I AM ME...WE ARE KILDEER family celebration. To review, the purpose of this evening is to learn from and about our Kildeer families.

What can you expect when you attend on Friday, September 14th?

Our doors will open at 6:00! The expectation is that families travel together during the evening to share the same experiences. As soon as you enter the school, here are a couple things to be on the lookout for:

Name Badge Find Someone Who

Have each family member wear the name badge and fill in the sentence: “Ask me about….”

IDEAS:

  • Our favorite family tradition

  • Our Friday night ritual

  • The best vacation

  • A favorite dish

  • Our family structure

This will serve as a nice conversation starter for meeting new people!

  • Pick up a FIND SOMEONE WHO booklet for your family.

  • Take ONE per family, since you’ll be traveling as a family unit!

  • Use this throughout the evening to go on a scavenger hunt for families that are similar and different from yours!

  • Make sure to write down their names and any other information you want to remember!

What’s next?

Now that you have your nametags AND booklet, here are things to pay attention to while you travel as a family unit together!

Statue of Liberty Photo Opportunity

Stage Performances

World Map & Calendar

Booths

Locker Walk

-Join Mrs. Fineman in the foyer by the large gym.

-She will be wearing the Statue of Liberty statue.

-Feel free to take a family photo together OR ask her why she is dressed as the Statue of Liberty!

-Hours are 6:30-8:00!

-Throughout the evening, various stage performances will be happening from our Kildeer families.

-Be on the lookout for the schedule posted by the main doors AND on your booklet!

-Listen for the "ding" to alert you to another performance!

-All night long!

-As you enter the building, take a look to your left!

-One bulletin board has a world map. Can you please have an adult plot a sticker where your family is from anywhere in the world? Let’s get a visual!

-One bulletin board has the calendar for the year. Will you please have an adult write a holiday that you celebrate and the culture it belongs to?

-All night long!

-Throughout the entire evening, visit the booths in the small gym AND the cafeteria!

-Learn from other families about what is important to them!

-Have a food allergy? Please be aware of the ingredients listed by the foods. Thank you for making this your responsibility!

-Don’t forget to stop in the large gym if you’d like to learn how to play the Italian game of Bocce ball (6:00-6:45)!

-As a family unit, please feel free to visit the lockers in the school.

-Take some time to see what students shared about their family!

-Want to see staff? Check out the doors of classrooms as well as other bulletin boards in the hallways!

-All night long!

How do we end the evening?

First of all, thank you for coming and participating. “We’re part of a community. Our strength is our diversity”. Join us in the small gym at 8:00 for a final celebration!

What’s next?

-Please continue these discussions as a family. What did you learn about the Kildeer families? Who did you meet? What would you like to know more about?

-Join us for the Ice Cream Social in two weeks! Say hello to your new friends and continue to learn from and about each other!

It seems that learning from and about each other is already a theme you can see in our classrooms. I was pleased to sit and listen with fifth graders in Mrs. Satoh's classroom to learn about foods from the homes! Students had the opportunity to post a photo with a caption, and then ask questions of each other!

I wish you all a wonderful weekend ahead. We will see students return on Tuesday, September 11th.

I look forward to seeing your family next Friday night for our I AM ME...WE ARE KILDEER family celebration

Warm Regards,

Mrs. Vail Kieser
