Woodlawn Earns 2016 National Blue Ribbon Recognition

On Sept. 28, 2016, U.S. Education Secretary John D. King Jr. announced the 279 public schools earning distinguished 2016 National Blue Ribbon recognition. School District 96 Woodlawn Middle School in Long Grove, Illinois, is among them, earning this recognition for a second time. Woodlawn was recognized previously with this award in 2009.

About the program
The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students achieve very high learning standards or make significant improvements in closing the achievement gap.

Woodlawn Middle School is recognized as an exemplary high-performing school - among the state's highest performing as measured by state assessments or nationally normed tests. SEE 2016 NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON MIDDLE SCHOOLS list.

Schools earn U.S. Department of Education National Blue Ribbon recognition for diligent work from students, teachers, faculty, and families committed to community schools that challenge students and equip them to succeed. Characteristics recognized schools share include focused leaders with clear vision, teachers supported through mentoring and professional development, and strong home-school connections.

Formal recognition of the 2016 Blue Ribbon Schools will take place in Washington, D.C., in early November.
