DuFour Award

The excitement is mounting!  Can you believe that this is really happening?  Learn about our school as a Professional Learning Community and live our DuFour Award celebration on Wednesday, April 11th at 7p.m.  You may want to wear a tuxedo, but sweatpants and jeans are recommended.  Mrs. Bird and I will present a brief overview of what it means to be a PLC and how other many other districts around the globe follow this model.  I continue to promise and will make good on this, celebration cake will be served. I know, too good to be true.

Finally, Spring Break reminds me of the wonderful family vacations we would take to Florida.  Unlike my children, who have never had the great pleasure piling into the family station wagon and heading out for a leisurely 24 hours in the car together, I was able to have this fond memory many times over.   Being the youngest of four children, I was sold on how cool it was to be in the back seat of the station wagon, facing the opposite direction of everyone else in the family. I never knew what state we were entering, but I saw the sign for the state we had just been driven through.  Welcome to Georgia! It challenged my geographical skills, “Oh good, Atlanta is 165 miles away in the opposite direction, so if I do my math correctly, only 8 more hours until we hit Sarasota! Yeah Florida! I think.” Another perk of being in the back of a station wagon is the numerous people with whom you make eye contact. I was often amazed at how close they could get to your bumper at 75 mph.  Whether you are looking at the driver or the person in the passenger seat, they are pretty much the only option of what you have to observe. Well, that is unless you choose to study the striped white lines for a hundred miles or so like I did. I will not tell you about the rest of that story, just know it didn’t end well. My fondest memory of the backwards trip to good ole F-L-A was when two yellow jacket bees decided to take their anger out on my leg when the back window was down.  So great. I did get to sit in the front seat for a short time after that happened. No seatbelt, but I was just happy to be facing the same direction as the rest of the family. Enjoy your spring break. If you fly somewhere, just know that I think you are pampering the family a little bit too much.
