Woodlawn Principal's Blog 1/12/18

We are back!  This felt like a quick week as the students and staff came back refreshed from our Winter Break.  Personally, I had a great break as well.  I had a lot of family time, visited friends and took a few naps.  A good nap may be the most overlooked thing in the universe.  I mean honestly, who wakes up from a nap and says, “That was a bad idea.”?  I just have a few items this week for the blog.

Woodlawn Community

The Woodlawn community lost two gentleman over break that I had the honor of working with over the past few years.  Lou Morabito passed away on December 28th surrounded by his family.  Every time he was in our building, he and I shared a laugh and I admired his positivity.  Lou’s sons Matt (Iowa State) and  Nathan (6th grade)  attended Woodlawn.  The Woodlawn family also lost Mitchell Teich as he passed away on January 6th.  Mitchell had a zest for living and adored his family.  His three daughters, Mazzy (Loyola), Veda (SHS) and Mayln (6th grade) all attended Woodlawn.

No School

This Monday, January 15th.  Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

iPads

No iPads were broken over break.  Shocking.  Please remind your student to take care of their iPad and treat it with care.

No preregistration/RSVP is needed and all interested adults are welcome.

Finally, 2018!  Woo hoo.  OK, I am over it.  I stayed up until midnight, rang in the new year and by 12:05a.m., I was in bed.  My 15 year old daughter had 20 friends over(I barely knew 20 people in high school), of which 9 of these loud young ladies slept over.  Not my problem, I let my wife handle this one.. I hit the hay.  When did I become boring?  Not sure, but it happened.  Two years ago, my wife put on the movie “The King’s Speech” at 10p.m., I was asleep from 10:00 until 11:55p.m. when I was woken up, celebrated and off to bed.  Sleep has become the real celebration for me.  I think that you should celebrate the amount of sleep you get on New Year's Eve.  7 hours, a hearty handshake for yourself.  8 hours, skip around the house. 9 hours, that is where people should be jumping up and down with noisemakers.  I would like a 9 hour countdown ball.  Now we are talking.  Enough of my being boring.  My New Year’s resolution is to eat healthier, be in the moment with people and yes, get more sleep.  I hope all of you have these high goals for yourself.  Enjoy your weekend.  Zzzzzz.
