Woodlawn Principal's Blog 10/6/17

What is this misty, wet stuff falling from the sky?  I cannot remember the last time it actually rained here.  I personally had a great week here at Woodlawn.  Middle school students are actually a lot of fun to be around.  Some of them are really funny and in this school, they are very respectful.  Just a few items this week.

Columbus Day

There will be NO SCHOOL on Monday, October 9th.  There WILL BE school on Tuesday, even if the Bears and Mitch Trubisky win.

7th Grade Science

The 7th grade science students have started building their VEX Clawbots as apart of the STEM component in science. Students have spent two days building and are excited to continue to build their robots. Once they are built, students will not only be able to use the robot with a remote control, but will also be able to program the robot to move in different patterns. We are excited to see how this STEM project turns out!

7th graders have been working on building robots in class.  Here are a couple of pictures:

Hurricane Relief

Thank you to all of the students and families who donated clothing items and money toward the hurricane relief effort.  Woodlawn was able to raise $354.46 that will go toward this humanitarian relief effort.  Nicely done Woodlawn.

Box Tops

This is your official warning, start collecting box tops for education.  I know that you have a plastic baggie full of torn box tops in a drawer somewhere.  Information will be coming from the Community Service Club on when and where your student can turn those in.

It didn’t happen last week…

***NOTICE OF WEED CONTROL TREATMENT***

District 96 uses Integrated Pest Management--a program that combines preventive techniques, non-chemical methods (such as bait traps), and the appropriate use of pesticides (with a preference for products least harmful to human health and the environment).
On Saturday, October 9th, 2017, the District 96 landscaper's Acres Group will treat gravel pathways on the Country Meadows-Woodlawn Campus. If you have any questions regarding this application you may contact Sam Miranda, Director of Facilities and Transportation at (847) 459-4260.

Finally, stink bugs...I am not sure who is winning. The entrance way to my home, all of the windows and my garage door have been overtaken by these rotten little critters.  Why are there so many?  Shouldn’t they be infesting a tree somewhere?  How do some of them get into my house?  I am flipping out if someone leaves a door open for too long!  My wife was grilling the other night and left the screen door open, I explained how that is the reason these worthless bugs are getting into the house and driving me out of my mind  (BTW, that conversation went well for me). Someone explain to me why they like to be in the corners of my ceiling or somewhere just out of the reach of a vertically challenged man.  When you do catch them, if you kill them, they secrete this nasty odor.  I cannot win with these things. I cannot take it anymore!  Thanks for listening.  Have a great 3 day weekend.
