Woodlawn Principal's Blog 9/22/17

Happy Friday! Even though we haven’t seen your children since Wednesday, I am hoping that everyone had a good week. I do not have a lot for the blog this week, so read quickly and move on to your weekend.

Early Release Day

Our next early release will be on Tuesday, September 25th.  Students will be released from school at 1:30p.m.

Hurricane Relief

The Community Service Club and Student Council are teaming up to help victims of Harvey and Irma.  Our first relief effort will include collecting donations of new and unused clothing items, shoes, underwear, socks, school supplies, as well as canned food and water. We will also be having an everyone gives something cash rally to show our support. That can be a penny to whatever amount the students feel comfortable giving. The cash donations will be given to the American Red Cross Relief Efforts.

We will be collecting the items between now and September 29th. Parents, if you would like to bring in items, you can drop them off in the main office.

IT IS HERE!

Always one of my favorites, the official notification of weed treatments on campus. Legally, we have to do this. And you think that you have problems with your lawn.

***NOTICE OF WEED CONTROL/TURF TREATMENT***

District 96 uses Integrated Pest Management--a program that combines preventive techniques, non-chemical methods (such as bait traps), and the appropriate use of pesticides (with a preference for products least harmful to human health and the environment).

District 96 landscape provider, Acres Group, will treat grass areas adjacent to Country Meadows, Woodlawn and Twin Groves September 21-23, 2017. If you have any questions regarding this application you may contact Sam Miranda, Director of Facilities and Transportation at (847) 459-4260.

Columbus Day

There will be no school on Monday, October 9th.

Daily Announcements

Finally, I am starting to get worried about the Cubs again. (For those of you who do not know this, I am a White Sox fan)  I look around baseball and think, the Cubs are still as good as anyone in all of baseball. Cleveland had that incredible winning streak, the Dodgers were the best team up until a month ago, and Washington, well, in my eyes, only has the guy with the coolest beard in the league (Bryce Harper).  Can I endure this again if the Cubs go on to win it all?  The obnoxious fans, the t-shirts, the hooting and hollering (all of that is just my wife), the inevitable slogans that are about to happen… I mean, come on, I am kind and understanding to a point.  Why would the Cubs do this to me? Meanwhile, on the south-side of Chicago, my team has quietly entered the fight for the first pick in the draft.  At the time that I am writing this, my Sox are only two games out of being the worst team in baseball.  In reality, it actually takes the pressure off. Think about it, if your team wins, it is “nice, my team won”. If they lose, it is “cool, better draft position”. Wait a minute, maybe i’ve been looking at this wrong all along. I have absolutely no pressure because my team is a mess. Cub fans, I can tell that you are envious of my situation. The pressure of repeating is about to begin.
