The first day of school for Woodlawn will be Thursday, August 17th from 7:45a.m. until 1:30p.m.   This is an EARLY RELEASE DAY!  Students will be dismissed at 1:30p.m.  Be here or be square.

6th Grade Parents

If you haven’t turned in your physical form and immunization forms for your incoming 6th grader, you must do so before school starts on Thursday of this week.  If we do not have the forms or a note from your doctor saying that there is an appointment set, we will exclude your child from school.

Locker Set Up Day

Come to the Long Grove community event of the year.  This Wednesday, August 16th from 4-7p.m.  your student can set up their locker, catch up with friends and get excited about the start of another school year.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone!

Say Cheese

Picture Day will be August 24th!  Your child will bring home a form during the first week of school.

District 96 Band & Orchestra Boosters – Membership ToolKit Sign-Up is Now Active!

Do you have a student participating in the band or orchestra programs this school year?  If so, you will want to stay “in the know” and create an account in the Boosters Membership ToolKit!  In our ToolKit you will have access to the order forms for the required concert polo shirts, forms to order items for Booster fundraisers and to register for events (such as treats for after-concert socials, Gift Cards, Booster membership/donations, and the “End of the Year” party) as well as forms to sign up to volunteer at Booster events.  You will also be able to make purchases with your credit card!  Offerings will be added throughout the year as we get closer to event dates.  Please note that most forms will now be located here, and will no longer be sent out by your band or orchestra director, so it is important that you set up an account to stay informed!  To create an account and get started head to https://bandandorchestraboosters.membershiptoolkit.com and follow the prompts.  If you already have a Membership ToolKit account with the PTO at your school, you can use the same e-mail and password to set up this account.  Questions?  Please contact Sharon Anderson at [email protected].

An Invitation to Newcomers to Our District 96 Community

Has your family recently moved to the United States or are you and your student(s) new to this area?

On Aug. 9 at 7 p.m., parents of registered students in Kindergarten–Grade 8 are invited to Twin Groves Middle School, 2600 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, for a program to welcome you to our community and introduce you to our District 96 culture.

Learn about and understand our home-school connection, classroom dynamics, patterns of communication to expect from our teachers and administrators, and more. Ask questions and help us understand how we can best support you as newcomers acclimating to the culture of a new school district, neighborhood, and community.

While all interested parents are welcome, please note that the focus of this evening is not specifically curricular and general procedural information, which will be shared with all District 96 parents on their students’ designated grade-level Curriculum Nights.

Rather, this is an informational opportunity for parents who–like their students–are experiencing our social customs and practices for teaching and learning for the first time.

If you are unable to attend on Aug. 9, a second Newcomers’ Welcome is offered on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. at Woodlawn Middle School, 6362 Gilmer Rd., Long Grove.

Questions? Please contact Director of Language and Early Literacy Katie Sheridan at [email protected]

Curriculum Nights

Mark your calendar!  Curriculum Night is a great time to meet your teachers and hear about the curriculum your child will receive this year.

6th grade will be Monday, August 28th.

7th & 8th grade will be on Tuesday, August 29th.

Each night begins in the gym at 7p.m., followed by a tour of your child’s schedule.

Finally, I am swamped here as we try to get the school year started.  I am going to have a shorter “finally” today, but know that I will have a lot of thoughts to share throughout the school year.  Last week, I threw out to the parents that they should tell their middle school student that only 400 hours remained until the start of school, then let me know about it.  Here is a small sample of responses:

Danny D.   “400 hours is so little time!”

The parents of Justin, Sammy, Danny, Mayln & Kush sent picture to capture the moment.
