Sometimes weeks are just long.  I had a bunch of nighttime activities this week and now I am simply tired out!  With that being said, the good times are not over with for the 8th graders (I will talk about that in a minute).  PARCC testing is over (except for make ups), our Track and Volleyball seasons are moving along and May is right around the corner.  Thanks to the PTO for sponsoring special lunch today, Chipotle is a favorite for everyone.

8th Grade Parents
I have a deal for you!  What if I told you that you could drop off your 8th grader at 7p.m., at the school tonight, then head out for a nice dinner and not have to pick them up until 9p.m.?  What would you pay this this type of service?  Top dollar I would bet!  So tonight, Woodlawn is hosting an 8th grade party and the cost is FREE!  We have games, a DJ and snacks.  Good times.  If you are tired of your 8th grader, drop them off and I will monitor their behavior.  Just be sure to pick them up at 9p.m. sharp.

Health Form 2017-18 Requirement Reminder
Don’t panic at the last minute. Plan ahead and make your student’s doctor’s appointments soon!

Health forms for the 2017-18 school year are due by Fri., Aug. 4.

If we don’t have required health forms for your student, we will hold your student’s teacher assignment/class schedule until we receive the required health forms.

Students currently attending District 96 schools and returning in 2017–18 have health form requirements that vary by grade level. PARENT LETTER | MORE INFO

If you have questions about health form requirements for 2017-18, before the current school year ends on June 6 please call the nurse at the school your student will attend in 2017-18. SCHOOL PHONE NUMBERS

District 96 schools are closed during July, but mail is received at each school throughout the summer. Remember that you can mail your student’s health forms to his/her school.

Community Service
The Woodlawn Community Service Club will be running a Food Drive Collection for the Vernon Township Food Pantry beginning on Monday, 4/17 through Wednesday 5/3.  As a fun little contest, we have several teachers who have graciously volunteered to participate in our Food Drive by getting a "Pie in their Face".  Students who bring in food to donate will get a raffle ticket from their homeroom teacher.  The Students will write their name on the back of the raffle ticket and place them in the jar of the teacher they would most like to "hit" with the pie.  At the end of the drive, winning student names will be drawn out of each teacher's jar. Those students will be allowed to push a whipped cream pie in the corresponding teacher's face. The pie-in-the-face event will take place at an all school assembly date and time TBD. Please see the PTO Blog for further collection details.  We appreciate your support!

3rd to Last Call for Dental Forms
6th Grade parents!!!  This is almost it.
Please note that if your child has not submitted a Dental Exam Report to the Nurse, the final deadline is May 15th.  There are Dental forms available that can be downloaded by going onto the District website, or most Dentists have them available and can complete them at the time of examination.  If you choose to have the exam waived, that form is also available online at the District website.

It is a state law that all 6th graders comply and submit a Dental Exam Report to the school.  Many families have already submitted the forms.  If your child still needs to have this mandated exam done, we ask that you please submit the completed form as soon as possible.  Thank you so very much.

Fun with Science!!   The past couple months the 7-1 students have been designing and redesigning Skittles dispensers as apart of an engineering challenge. The top 4 were placed in the teachers lounge for teachers to vote on their favorite. Congratulations to the winners from Period 2 Joey, Humza, Aditya, and Bennett and the runners-up from Period 7 Amrita, Anika, Joy and Gabbi. It was great to see how creative all of the students were during this engineering challenge!

Finally, Mr. Keenon wanted the staff to join him in celebrating William Shakespeare’s birthday, April 23, 1564.  Wait, maybe it was the day he died, April 23, 1616.  Either way, we had a day where some of the teachers wore Shakespeare t-shirts, quotes or jewelry.  Today, in honor of the best selling fiction writer of all time, I am sharing some of my favorite Shakespeare quotes.

Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them.
My reply: Except for the Chicago Bears.

To thine own self be true, and it must follow, as the night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man.
My reply: I have to be good all of the time?

The course of true love never did run smooth.
My reply: I hear ya on that one my friend. I hope my wife isn't reading this...

There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so.
My reply: Cogito ergo sum - I think therefore I am.  Not to be confused with Incognito ergo sum- I think therefore I am someone else.

Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind; and therefore is winged Cupid painted blind.
My reply: I could have used that line when I was younger.

Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.
My reply: My favorite.

If music be the food of love, play on.
My reply: My taste in music is a little off.  I was jamming to the Safety Dance earlier today.

Love all, trust a few, do wrong to none.
My reply: I am trying.

Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow, that I shall say good night till it be morrow.

My reply: I'll see you next week.
