Even though there is no school today, through the magic of the internet, you still have access to the Principal’s Blog. I hope that everyone has a great 3 day weekend. I know that I will be enjoying college baseball games in central Illinois.  Woo Hoo!

8th Grade Party
Next Friday, April 21st, the 8th graders will be having a NEON NIGHTS HOUSE PARTY!  Students will have access to a number of activities including: glow in the dark dodgeball, soccer kick darts, wrecking ball soccer and a DJ dance party!  Water and snacks will also be provided.  Come on out from 7-9p.m. next Friday evening. Thank you PTO for sponsoring this event.

Middle School Schedule
Thank you to the parents who attended the MS Schedule presentation last night.  Here is a LINK to a number of frequently asked questions from the parents who attended last evening and the presentation last week.   There are no more parent nights, but  I will be hosting a coffee for Woodlawn parents on April 18th from 8-9a.m. in our Learning Center.  I hope that you can attend.  If you cannot make to the coffee and would like to see the presentation, click here.

Community Service Club

The Woodlawn Community Service Club will be running a Food Drive Collection for the Vernon Township Food Pantry beginning on Monday, 4/17 through Wednesday 5/3.  As a fun little contest, we have several teachers who have graciously volunteered to participate in our Food Drive by getting a "Pie in their Face".  Students who bring in food to donate will get a raffle ticket from their homeroom teacher.  The Students will write their name on the back of the raffle ticket and place them in the jar of the teacher they would most like to "hit" with the pie.  At the end of the drive, winning student names will be drawn out of each teacher's jar. Those students will be allowed to push a whipped cream pie in the corresponding teacher's face. The pie-in-the-face event will take place at an all school assembly date and time TBD. Please see the PTO Blog for further collection details.  We appreciate your support!

Woodlawn Events
Fun times were had by all yesterday at Woodlawn as we hosted Volleyball games, Scholastic Bowl and Track & Field events.  I absolutely love it when we have so many parents in the building, supporting their stars.  Way to go Wolves!

Stand Strong

Look for our next event, April 24th from 7:00 - 8:30 PM at Twin Groves.  This event is open to all consortium 8th grade students at their parents.  Attendees can RSVP to this link.  This is a very informative event that will make 8th graders and their parents less anxious about sending their kids to SHS.  The main point of the event will be that the majority of the kids at SHS do NOT drink or use substances!

8th Grade End of the Year
8th grade parents, this is a reminder that forms are due for graduation, the bowling party and Great America.  Please turn those forms in as soon as you can.  Check out the link and your student can turn in the form to the front office.

Finally, it is time to pay back my son for a good deed.  In my blog from 4/24/15, I get to turn the tables to see his reaction. If you do not want to go back to that blog, my oldest plays college baseball and gave me his first home run ball.  On Tuesday of this past week, he hit a grand slam (proud dad moment) and I was lucky enough to have someone give the ball to me.  I am a little melancholy that he only has a month left in his baseball career.  I think about the little boy who wore a full out baseball uniform to his first day of kindergarten, played for years in the summer heat, learned about teamwork and sportsmanship, had highs and lows, but persevered throughout.  My guess is that he is cool with it because he gave it his all. My wife is thrilled that he will be graduating and getting a job in finance. For myself, I am having a tougher time with it.  As a side note, he picked #27 to wear as his college jersey, just like his old man wore many years ago. You hear it a lot, time flies.
