Superintendent's Message, 4.20.2016

Ms. Meghan Kennedy has accepted the position of Woodlawn Assistant Principal, effective Aug. 1, 2016. At their April 19 Board of Education meeting members unanimously approved her appointment.

Since she came to KCSD96 in 2010, Ms. Kennedy has contributed significantly in meeting Country Meadows students’ needs. She demonstrates exceptional understanding of what’s best for kids.

In her role as a special education teacher, she excels in determining the most effective strategies to meet individual’s needs in ways that increase their understanding, foster independence, and build confidence. Her strong understanding of technology as a learning tool contributes to her ability to support and extend their learning.

After school, Meghan continues her work for kids. She has embraced the mission of Girls On the Run, focusing on exercise, healthful lifestyle choices, and emotional well-being for all the girls involved. She helps children share her high expectations for them, increasing their social self-confidence and self-respect.

Her leadership talents are evident. In 2013 she was nominated by colleagues for distinguished Illinois State Board of Education Those Who Excel recognition as an early career educator. Her skill at connecting and communicating brings out fellow educators’ best, making her an exceptional team leader, new teacher mentor, and job-alike facilitator. Reflecting her commitment as a lifelong learner, she earned a master’s degree in principal preparation and teacher leadership from Concordia University.

From the classroom to her work in teacher teams, Meghan’s genuine enthusiasm and highly collaborative practices equip her well to serve Woodlawn Middle School students, staff, and families as assistant principal. She succeeds Ms. Vail Kieser, who will begin her responsibilities as principal of Kildeer Countryside Elementary School in August.
