OUR COMMUNITY CONNECTING WORK TOGETHER CONTINUES–Jan. 9th, 2017
All interested parents, please plan to come to the Twin Groves Middle School Learning Center on Mon., Jan. 9, 2017, at 7 p.m. for important work together to build our cultural competency.

Tell me more…
Cultural competency is broadly understood as the ability to communicate and work effectively across cultures by acknowledging and navigating differences in individuals’ worldviews. Keeping in mind that cultural differences may arise from a variety of family and individual characteristics (race, class, gender, etc.), cultural competency emphasizes our ability to serve our students and their families from diverse cultures effectively and with sensitivity.

Help us make progress together
Join our diverse and representative group of stakeholders and become a “cultural informant,” helping to plan and incorporate cultural relevance into District 96 programs and practices.

We invite you to Twin Groves Middle School, 2600 N. Buffalo Grove Rd., Buffalo Grove, on Jan. 9 to listen, learn, and participate in leader-led interactive activities with parents district wide who–like you–want the best for their children. Don’t miss this opportunity to broaden our understanding of who we are and what we value, to meet new friends, and to connect as a community.

NEW!! BAND & ORCHESTRA BOOSTER NEWS
District 96 is hosting the 2017 IGSMA (Illinois Grade School Music Association) Solo & Ensemble Contest, bringing hundreds of band, orchestra, and choral students from middle and elementary schools across Lake County to perform a musical piece for a judge. Many D96 students will be performing at this event Sat., Feb. 4, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., at Woodlawn Middle School, 6362 Gilmer Rd., Long Grove.

We are still in need of volunteers to work shifts as room monitors, parking assistants, contest office, concession sales, and event set-up and take-down, as well as cooks for a potluck luncheon for contest judges. Even 2 hours of your time will be much appreciated! Your student does not need to participate in IGSMA for you to volunteer.

High school students are also encouraged to volunteer, and their service hours will be recognized. If you are interested–but unsure of your schedule for that day–please enter your name, e-mail address, and job preference in the General Volunteer Sign Up slot on our Sign-Up Genius webpage. You will be contacted closer to the date asking if you are able to fill any remaining slots available. To be directed to our Sign-Up Genius webpage to sign up for all the specific jobs and shifts/times you can work, please CLICK HERE.
